Since I was recently deemed 'most helpful member of 2023' on here for some (to me not very clear 😂 ) reason, I will live up to the expectations, and do an in depth solve critique here every week! The critiques will be in order of submission, with the following 'rules':
  • The solve should be a 3x3 solve somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds;
  • Please provide a video of the solve that is clear enough so that I can see what you are doing;
  • Also provide a reconstruction of the solve. If you find it difficult to reconstruct solves yourself, it is fine to just give me the scramble and the video, but if possible, please do include a reconstruction;
  • Submit your solve in this thread, so that others have an idea of how long the waiting list is (if this gets popular enough for a waiting list to appear haha)
  • For now at least, I'll keep it at 1 solve critique per person;
  • Only submit if you are willing to put in the work to improve your solving using the advice I give, and if you are okay with the fact that I, too, am still pretty bad at cubing (just good enough to give you useful advice, hopefully).
There won't be a standard day when I will post the critiques, but I'll try to mostly keep it on saturdays.

and if you are okay with the fact that I, too, am still pretty bad at cubing

Which of these do you want critiqued the most?

the 13.023 solve
Cross:
In terms of solution, your cross was good, which makes sense, since it was quite a straightforward cross. The only real alternative was y2 Rw2 F R U L2, which is probably a little bit better since it's more fingertrickable and can be cancelled into the next pair with y2 Rw2 F R L' U' L' etc. But the difference is probably not very big. However, the angle from which you started your solution wasn't optimal. z2 y L F D' R D is a lot better. The B move itself isn't bad, but since it's followed by a D', that makes it a lot more awkward to execute. Maybe even something like z2 F R Uw' L Uw would be viable here, especially since you'd not have to rotate for the blue red pair afterwards, but I personally am not a fan of more than 1 Uw move during cross. But I suck at turning, so who am I to judge (@gsingh, is that cross solution good?)
Anyway, you could have also done a Uw at the end of your solution to avoid the rotation, but that would require you to have seen the pair in advance, and I can't tell if you did.

1st pair:
L U L' y L U L' or, even better, y L' U L2 U L' would have saved you 2 or three moves respectively. The better solution even gives you a free pair, but that's maybe a bit hard to see. Still, good job for solving the pair in the back.

2nd pair:
From the fact that you did the U2 and the rotation almost simultaneously, it appears that you knew that you were going to do that pair before doing the U2. If that is the case, you could have done the pair with L' U2 L U R' U' R. If, however, you did the U2 first and then saw the case, you should have done (U2) L' U' L R' U' R. That solution is also good for if you saw the pair before doing the U2 btw, but I wanted to mention that other way as well, because it's worth it being aware of both. Just know that a rotation here is not necessary, because the edge is oriented.

3nd pair
You seemed to look at the back a bit to recognise this pair, but the better one of the 2 pairs was right in front of you: the orange green pair can be solved with U2 R U' R' U' R' U' R. If you do the other pair, I'd recommend pairing it up without rotating with U R' U' R, because rotating doesn't orient the edge here anyway, so you'll have to rotate again (or use Dw moves like you put on your recon, but looking at the video you rotated). Another way to solve the green red pair and pair up the orange green pair is M' U R' U' MR2 U' R', but I'd personally never catch that in a fast solve.
Nevermind, I just noticed that you actually rotated the other way for the 2nd pair than the recon said so it makes sense that you didn't see the green orange pair. I'll keep what I wrote though, it can still be useful.

The rest of the solve was fine. You could have slegded the last pair to get EO, but the OLL you got now was really good anyway so it didn't really matter.

One more thing: I think I counted 2 unnecessary regrips from homegrip throughout this solve, make sure you don't do that.

thanks a lot! i just came back from a comp.... got a 11.61 avg (14.67, 13.02, 10.89, 10.45, 10.93) highly unexpected. where do u think i can imporve on? f2l efficiency? tps? cross efficiency? pll?

Congrats with the average!
I think it's very important that you get used to not rotating when it's not necessary, part of which is probably that you might not know enough F2L solutions for different cases from different angles, and judging from the first and last solve, cross efficiency can use some work as well.
The first scramble has a bit of an annoying cross because it would be very nice to preserve the blue orange corner, but it's hard to take advantage of. I think I would do z2 x D2 Lw D R F' L', because at least the blue orange pair ends up being good.
For the last scramble, I would have done z2 y R B' D L F R F' x-cross or maybe even just z2 y R B' D R L into free pair.
I would really recommend becoming dual colour neutral at least, because if you get a bad white cross now you're just stuck, whereas if you're dual colour neutral you can just use the yellow cross as well. Plus the F2L pairs have the same colours on yellow as on white so it's not very hard to get used to.
