Jorian Meeuse's progression thread (Kinch WR230 ER70 NR4)

what method do you use for skewb
Idk I know a bunch of algs to get the upper layer solved and I know a few NS algs for when the upper center is solved
If you do yellow, it is a 3 move solution(Harder to spot though) and u also get a U Perm!
I mean yeah that's the same solution
I'm glad you noticed which corner to insert first to get a better case, bc if you did other way you would have gotten 3 sledge case
Yes definitely, although that case would just have been hedge u perm, so basically the same but with 4 moves that cancel each other out and do nothing. Still, it's what made the solve sub 3, so I'm very glad.
What do you average for pyra and skewb
Probably 5 and 6 respectively, not sure

What kind of squirrels live near you? Grey, red black? Where I live it’s mostly grey so do we have the same squirrels?

I started a 4BLD ao1000 (which will obviously be DNF, but the point is to do 1000 attempts), and I can safely say, it's quite necessary. These are my first 10 attempts, it doesn't really get more inconsistent:
DNF(2:03.35), DNF(2:50.88), DNF(2:35.13), 2:19.67, 2:16.05, DNF(3:25.93), 3:41.53, DNF(2:31.39), 2:52.00, 1:59.29

It took 10 attempts to get a sub 2. That can certainly improve.

I paused the 4BLD ao1000 for a week to practice 3BLD for saturday (nats). I can still get 22s on the most terrible of solves, so I'm now actually quite confident I can win if I just don't get too nervous. It's really just going to be up to how my nerve handling is during the competition. It's kind of a bummer that 3BLD is at 6 PM, I usually do quite poorly in later rounds.
Maybe, now that my goal isn't getting NR but winning nats, I'll actually get NR this time around :p

I'm not very good at 2x2 anymore. I did 100 solves today to check my current level, and I found out that I forgot a lot of algs and AUF predictions.

Not really expecting podium anymore for 2x2, but 3BLD is the only important event for me during nats anyway so who cares 😂

I would have won 3BLD with a 23.14 or better, and would have podiumed in 2x2 with a 3.11 or better on solve 2 or 3...
Both would have been very easy, but I didn't quite manage to do either one. I'll win next year I guess?

Scrambles of my eternal PR singles in pyraminx and skewb:
The skewb PR was not eternal, I got 2.44 today haha

Why I am not national champion, 3BLD edition!
(2x2 edition might be coming soon, depending on the scramble for solve 2)

This huge pause:

But hey, the LTCT was cool

(I admit, I wouldn't have deserved a 2x2 win, but in hindsight, it was very possible)

This was the second scramble: R' F R U' R' U' F2 R U R F'
In inspection, I instantly saw that z' L' U L would make both the orange and red face. Then I realised that the red layer would actually get solved and on top, so I did a z2 to get the solved layer at the bottom. That made the first layer z R' D R, and would give me a J perm on top. However, for some reason I thought I would get a Y perm on top. So my solution became z R' D R2 U2 R' U2 pause and realize it wasn't a Y perm U2 R U2 R' U R' F R F' R U2 R' U R U2 R' U, giving me a 3.56. A 3.11 or better would have provided podium, and 1.55 or better would have made me tie the first place average, but I would have won by single. Now, fair enough, the normal solution of z R' D R U R' F R F' R U2 R' U R U2 R' U isn't super easy to sub 1.56, but it's not completely unreasonable.
However, I'm not at all mad that I didn't win 2x2. I am sad that I missed out on such an easy podium possibility though, 3.11 on this scramble would have done the trick.

R2 F U2 R2 F' R2 U2 R U R' F
z2 x R2 U' F R' F' R U R' F' R2 U R' U2
13/1.93 = 6.74 TPS
U2 R2 F2 R U' R' U' F' U2 R U'
I don't remember what I did, but who cares anyway, the scramble is really bad
U' R' U' F R U2 R' U' R F2 R
x2 z U R2 U' R2 U R U R' U' R' F R F'
13/1.55 = 8.39 TPS
R' U F U2 F U2 F' U' F U' F
Pretty sure I did y2 U R U' R U R' y' R' F R2 U R' F' R U2 R'
15/1.93 = 7.77 TPS

I've been trying a bit of 4BLD with 1-pass memo (for those who don't know, it means that you don't review the memo). It's still really difficult and a lot slower for me right now, so I'm doing it with handscrambles and not timed, so I also don't count those towards the ao1000. I just got my first 1-pass success, and I'm hoping to be able to comfortably use 1-pass memo in my next competition (dec 16)

Just (re)learnt all 4BLD wing parity algs (at least for the UFr buffer). The algs are all a bit confusing and similar, but luckily over half of them are setups into K parity.
