how should i train for a competition?

normally they send an email out with groups and duties and stuff a few days before the comp

how should i train and what should I bring with me
I've never been to a comp, but here are things that I have heard:

-Don't learn new algs 1-2 weeks before
-Do all of your solves with a stackmat timer (if you have one)
-When you practice, do solves in as realistic an environment as possible. For example, if you are going to a big comp, you can look up a yt video of crowd noises and play that in the background.
-You should probably master AUF, because if you are off in a comp, that's a plus 2. (I'm really bad at AUF)
-When you practice, penalty all plus 2s and DNFs

To bring (again, I've never been to a comp, these are just things that I think are logical. I may have missed some stuff):
-1 main for each event
-1 backup main for each event
-Extra screwdriver/tension tools/magnet tools
-Tension/Magnet/etc. nuts or similar adjustment add-ons (it depends on the cube you use)
-Extra lube (make sure they are in ziploc bags, especially lubes that are in tubes such as Weight 5.)
-Cube bags or boxes to keep them from getting dirty
-Laptop
-Stackmat timer (if you have one)
-Camera (optional)
-Chargers (important)
-Any extra puzzles that you want for fun (optional)

I hope this helped!

Great question!

Anything like a drawstring bag or an extra backpack will work, wouldn’t recommend bringing school bag. In that bag you want, small snack, (nothing with peanuts) water bottle, and phone charger. I have a bag in a bag for my cubes, for cubes you should have, one cube for each event (aside from a backup 3x3 and a backup from your main event) Someone at your table will have screws and accessories like that. Bring stackmat. There’s something else I’m missing but those are the big ones.
