*I apologize if this should be in the beginner's section, seeing as I have been cubing for only three-ish weeks. However, I am into speedcubing now, and I believe this should be the right forum.

I have been doing finger exercises by repeating certain moves over and over, step by step. My left hand really is lagging, though.

I was wondering, does anybody have some good techniques to build speed, strength, and accuracy, especially in the left hand?

Get a stress ball and squeeze it for a few hours. It helped my left hand a lot.

I have a Gripmaster that I'm going to use--if I can find the bugger...--and was also thinking of using my not-very-broken-in original Rubik's. But I worry that if I get used to the harder efforts used for that cube, I'll over-turn on my type-C speed cube.

Does that happen ever?

It happened to me.
I was using a Rubik's (a decent one too) before I got my C4Y and DS cubes (I wasn't using my type D because it didn't cut corners well enough), and when I got my new cubes it took me about an hour or so to get used to each one.

But, it really only takes about an hour to get used to the cubes.
