Originally I was going to learn 2 look OLL, but I'm not very good at breaking bad habits, so I found it better to start out with full OLL.

I've been using my GAN 356 M and Tornado Flagship for solves and practice, I like them a lot better than the RS3M.
2 Look OLL isnt a ‘bad habit’ imo and the 2 look Algs are part of the full OLL algs and help you gain a further understanding. Also, if you sledgehammer your last F2l pair you do not have to learn the dot olls(I think this is something Dana Yi did).

The tornado flagship is your best bet. (V3 I think, right). The GAN 356 M is old now and the RS3M is clunky

Yeah, I know, I just have trouble breaking bad habits in general.

Really? I wasn't going to learn F2L until after PLL, but if dot cases can be avoided that way, that's 8 OLL algorithms that I can skip over. Thanks!

Is it weird then that I prefer the GAN? I know the Tornado V3 is all the rage right now, but I've consistently been getting better times with the GAN. I think it fits my aggressive turning style better, plus I like the matte surface over the Tornado's glossy surface.

Sure. Whatever cube suits you best! The Gan isn’t a bad option at all, but be careful as smartcubes are banned in comps.

Heres a video to explain what I meant by skipping OLL dots.

The video is over complicated (just find the pair and sledge it in, if you get the rare R U R’ case then welp)

I am finally home after spending 2 weeks on the opposite side of the country. Despite this, I was able to practice and learn quite a bit. I now know Ortega for 2x2 and beginners CFOP for 3x3 (white cross on bottom, intuitive F2L, and 4LLL). I average around 8-9 seconds on 2x2, and got an incredibly lucky scramble giving me a 3.89 single. I'm averaging 35-40 seconds with beginners CFOP, but I still have a lot of room for improvement. My goal is to average sub-30 by the end of August.

Here's what I'm working on:

- Practice Ortega for 2x2, beginners CFOP for 3x3, and Reduction for 5x5
- Practice beginners' method for Megaminx and Pyraminx
- Learn the parity algorithms for 4x4
- Learn finger tricks for 3x3 OH

and in the near future...

- Learn 2x2 blind! (Very excited to start this one, I'm hoping that it will help me build up to 3x3 blind)

Weekend challenge: I’m scrambling all my cubes (minus my gear ball and superstar), and Saturday I will solve them all in one sitting.

Comment what time you think I will get, and whoever is the closest gets to change my signature to anything cube related for a week.

I’m not very fast, but I thought that this would be a fun thing to do. Good luck!

(Hint: most of my averages can be found under the accomplishments tab on my SS profile)

I have exciting news, I'll be participating in my first competition in three weeks, on August 19th! Here’s a breakdown of the events I’ll likely sign up for:

3x3
I average roughly 26 seconds and use beginners CFOP with the Tornado V3 Flagship. I have set two goals for this event: make the second round, and get a sub-20 average.

The top 75% proceed to the second round, so that shouldn’t be too difficult, but I’m not so sure how easy it will be to get the sub-20 average. My plan is to learn full PLL, which should shave a few seconds off. Other than that, I’m just going to practice my look ahead.

4x4
I never solve 4x4, and I only just now got the MGC to practice with (my old 4x4 popped). 5x5 is my main event, but because it’s not offered at this competition, I’m going to do 4x4 instead. I use reduction method, but I realize that Yau is the better alternative if I want to improve quickly. I average 2 minutes flat with it, and I don't really have any idea how fast I can get in the matter of 3 weeks. Being sub-1 would be very cool, but again, I don't really know what's realistic.

Pyraminx
I solve Pyraminx here and there, but not very seriously. I use the Maglev Weilong, and I average 10-15 seconds with beginner's method. Currently I'm researching what the next step would be, a nice goal for this comp would be to get a sub-10 average, but again, I'm not really sure.

Skewb
This event is highly debatable. The fact is, I don't have a skewb, and I don't really know how to solve one. But I have seen tutorials, and people say that it's very easy. If I decided to commit to it, I could order one right now, and have two weeks to practice it. What do you think, can I lower my average to a reasonable time with only two weeks of practice?

Nice, don't stress over your results too much, and make sure you talk to some other cubers, I did not do that enough in my first few comps.
