QiYi has updated the Tornado v3’s core with stronger ballcore in their latest batches while still selling it at the same price.
I tried both old core and new core Tornado V3, and the one with new core is a lot better.
I guess this can be one of the reasons for Max Park to switch back from the YS3M.
It is only the Tornado Pioneer version (the Maglev version that most agree is not as good as the Flagship version) that has the new "ball" design by replacing the original brittle axle design. I believe that Max Park was using the Flagship, and not the Pioneer, when he broke WR. Am I wrong?

Now, I am not disputing that the Maglev version (with its different turning behaviour and super fast speed) may be improved by the ball. What I really like to know is whether the Flagship with its conventional spring system will be improved by a ball. I hope that's also true. I look forward to QiYi upgrading the Flagship as well, and hope any improvement will be brought to their best version, which most agreee is the Flagship. The reviews of the new Moyu cubes suggest that the ball makes a different to stability. What I don't know is whether it is due to the core magnets or the ball shape as well, since Moyu don't seem to have any cube with Corte magnets unless they are mounted in a ball for direct comparison.

I have the updated core. Once I disassembled the whole cube to clean and one of the stalks connecting the core to the center piece came off! I inserted it back, and all is good. However, I now hesitate to disassemble fully, just each side separately when I clean.

I have the Tornado V3 Flagship with new core, and it works extremely well.

Edit: Its the 2nd best 3x3 on the market after the MoYu & Pi Cube WeiLong WRM V9 as for now imo, gonna be my backup after my Premium setup Pi Cube V9 arrives.

So, you are confirming the ball shape does help. Time for me to get this new Flagship. 👍

Ball shape doesn't necessarily help. The extra strength from the better designed core that happens to be a ball shape does. If you are getting layers so deformed that you're hitting the ball with any internal pieces, you're almost certainly locking up and the difference between the core having a ball shape or not shouldn't matter, at least on the V3.

If you have both the V9 standard and the V9 UV Ballcore, I suggest swapping the torpedoes to get rid of the edge magnets, and swap the springs from the V9 standard to the V9 UV Ballcore. Just trying to replicate the Pi Cube Limited V9
Done! And despite leaving the maglev intact, it became a fantastic cube.
What pi55es me off is that there is no difference between UV and non UV colors! At least in my house light. See for yourself, the hybrid:

This is a false assumption. I did not get the Tornado V3 Flagship until many months after its release and it came with a ball shield around the core. Many cubers were having problems with the core snapping upon the TRND's release (as the plastic is very easy to break. Perhaps Qiyi went with a different core design to make the cube lighter?) so Qiyi solved this problem by making a new batch that featured the ball core.

Did major surgery on Weilong V9 ballcore to remove edge magnets. Honestly, it's now much better than my previously preferred YS3M. Also believe it can even give my Tornado pioneer a run for it's money - just different feel.

Going to get the core magnet kit for my standard version.

(don't try this at home... 🤣)

His method to remove the magnets is cleaner. I should have used that tool. Instead I used these 2:

Got faster after the third edge 🤣

I really like the new Tornado. It's a must own.
