Hong Kong Cube Day 2023

You should learn all of them, 1 look pll is a LOT faster than 2 look
Do you think I can get sub 20 at this comp if I learn full PLL where I average sub-24 now? I found G perms to appear quite a lot and theoretically G perms appear at a chance of 2/9 which is very high. Do you think I should learn G perm first before E, R, V & N perms, or in what order should I learn these remaining PLL algs?

i learned all plls except the g perms while averaging not even global sub 30, so ig its up to you on what order you learn em

Yes learn g perms first, but you should learn all of them before comp, and yes you can prob get sub-20

Seems G perm is really important. As the chance of getting a G perm is higher than 20% theoretically, there will probably be at least 1 G perm in comp.

I would like to ask if it is possible for me to switch my main like for example if I get a 28 and a 18 in the first and second solves with my moretry tianma x3 snap, then can I switch to my tornado v3 pioneer in the remaining solves?

Also what time will I have to get to get into the 2x2 and 3x3 final? Or what ranking do we have to get in order to get into the final? I'm trying to compare to the results of the comp ShenZhen Open 2019 (a city in China nearest to Hong Kong) which lots of top solvers in Hong Kong and China joined including YuSheng Du. For 3x3, as there was a second round, I don’t think the results are comparable. For 2x2, a sub-6.5 average can already get into the final with ease. If it is the case that the result in Hong Kong Cube Day 2023 will be similar to that comp at least in 2x2 (as 2x2 hardware was already very good like the Valk 2 M was already out there), and if I get a normal sub-5 average in 2x2, does it mean that I will probably get into the final for 2x2?

I don't think it would be possible because as soon as you solve the puzzle and confirm the time, your puzzle is taken by a runner to the scrambling table

According to guideline 3a++:

By default, a competitor should use the same puzzle for consecutive attempts in a speed solving round. A competitor may switch puzzles between attempts, at the discretion of the judge or WCA Delegate.

Any idea on this?

I was allowed to switch cubes at the discretion of my judge, and I don't think it should be a problem.

I average almost sub-7 with LBL, and here's my tips. I usually solve centers and tips within 2 seconds usually turning the centers and tips on pickup. Try to preserve all the blocks on the color you're solving for first layer. And look ahead to see what case last layer will be. I usually turn the last tip while doing last layer auf, if the tip not on your first layer is twisted. Please let me know if there's anything that didn't make sense or something I can give more tips on
I have got to sub-9 on pyraminx from sub-11 with LBL now, and I found that with that 5 algs now (I memorised the last 2 algs very lately, but getting faster on these algs, and sometimes can't really recognise it fast), I just have to focus on an efficient first layer including the pyraminx tips. Can't really lookahead last layer tho. I don't think I get can into the top 100 national ranking in this comp as I will have to average sub-8, but it's pretty close tho.

Also I really want to get into the final for 2x2. I use LBL for first layer, one look Ortega OLL, and J perm or Y perm for PLL. I found that PLL takes over 2s for me on 2x2 even though I'm sub-5 on 2x2. How can I improve on 2x2 PLL? Are there any efficient PLL algs for 2x2 PLL?

I have just got a gan timer and a mini gan mat lately and I found that the cube can sometimes bounce off from the mat and touch my hand when I stop the timer. Is that a +2 or DNF? I am not intentionally doing this and obviously I am not taking any advantage from this.

I don’t think any competitions use GAN timers or mats. I’m pretty sure it’s speedstack across the board.
