Hong Kong Cube Day 2023

Yes, and you might even get an average. When I did megaminx in comp, the cutoff in round 1 was 1:30, which I did not make, and therefore I got to do only 2 solves. There were many more people who didn't make cutoff though, resulting in people (including me) making finals by having a fast enough single time. In finals, there was no cutoff, so now I have a megaminx ao5 anyway.
But my PB for megaminx is like 1:50, and I seldom make it sub 2 so I guess I’m still a bit far away from getting an ao5 for megaminx

Yeah unfortunately you will only have 1 round of mega. Don't let that stop you from competing in it though! It's always fun to have an official result in an event.

Do you think I should learn 3x3 blind within this month so that I can compete in it? It’s the only event that I can’t do in this comp, and in the other events that I am weak at like 4x4, 5x5 amd mega I can still comfortably make the time limit even though I won’t be able to make the cut off

Yeah obviously you can try! Just sign up for 3BLD, and if you are still incapable of doing 3BLD the 21st of february, which btw I don't think will happen, you can still remove it from your events list (possible till that date).

I can already do 2x2 blindfolded in like 2 minutes which are equivalent to 3x3 corners. Is that terrible?

Do you think it is hard for me to make the time limit?
You'll definitely have to put in some effort, but it is far from impossible. It is always possible you'll get triple DNF, but that will always be the case with BLD events. I'd recommend just trying, if you don't succeed, at least you'll have a bit of a headstart for your next comp.

this is going to be my first comp but idk if i should go cuz i’m still sub 45 3x3 ://
I’d recommend trying pyraminx, skewb, clock and 2x2 as well since these events are very easy to learn and get into without memorising a bunch additional algorithms.
In my first comp the fastest Average was 6.9 seconds, the slowest 2:40 Minutes.

With 28 seconds I was on place 90 of 110. Sub 17 would have been needed to get into the first half.

Here in Europe the level of most comps is around this. I don't know about china.
Maybe the larger travel time and the fact that there are speedcubing academies will attract more professional players and less "beginners".

But the worst thing that can happen is that you end up last. It will be a very good experience to be at a comp, even if you are not really good.
At least it is attractive to watch when there are more better players. Maybe you will even witness a world record.
I recommend you to judge a lot, because these are the beste places to watch some good solves ;)
How can we judge? Also will that be unfair if someone judge in an event that he himself do as well? He will have chances to see the scramble as well as a solve by another cuber

I am somehow super hyped for this competition.

A lot of Chinese cubers will get an opportunity to prove their times officially.
The last comp held in Hong Kong was like 4 years ago where I didn't even have a 2x2. I only had a random stickerless non-magnetic 3x3 and a cyclone boys magnetic skewb, and I didn't even know there was a cube comp in Hong Kong.

You cannot judge or scramble in the same round you compete

As far as I know you usually even have to judge.

I was only at one competiton so far but there you could just sit at a table and then they sent a competitor to you.
Or if a table had no judge, the called out for some judges and then you could choose a competitor to judge.

They always needed some judges, so you could also judge more than you had to.
There are different rounds with different scrambles and you can't judge your own round.

I found that a really good experience, because you could watch different solves from very close and meet a lot of people.
You could even get assigned to one of the Top Pros.
