So, I need help with my 2x2. I currently use the beginners method and I'm not too fast. I've been able to solve the 2x2 long before I could solve the 3x3, so about 4 years, but I still haven't improved. I would appreciate help.

You probably want to start learning the Ortega method. For Ortega you just solve one face not worrying about solving the whole layer, then you solve OLL, and do a small algorithm set called PBL and it solves the whole cube, and with some practice you could get sub 5. Jperm has some good videos on it from what I have seen, and his website Jperm.net also has the Ortega method algorithms if you want to look at them.

Ortega is quite easy to learn. I've learned it in one day with my outdated brain hardware 😋

The OLL algs are short and sometimes the same like 3x3, the PBL algs are also very short and the longer ones you already know from 3x3 or beginners method.
Maybe it's good to watch a video. On the Alg Sheets I didn't fully understand it until JPerm told me to watch for bars ;)

The most important is to do it color neutral because there is (almost) always one easy side to begin, but you don't have to remember the color scheme.
Its enough to know the opposite colors.

Still the biggest problem for me that keeps me from good times is to recognize the bars fast enough

This is pretty good stuff! I've watched the JPerm video and tried it, but I kind of get confused when it comes to the bar stuff, so I quit lol.
I do think that I'll try it again. Thanks for the help! But I do have one more question... what 2x2 is the best? I'm asking because mine locks up a LOT, and it doesn't have any magnets. I'm thinking about buying the MoYu RS2 M Evolution 2x2 Magnetic, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

from what i heard the rs2m evo is good, so get it but the gan 251 m pro is the best 2x2 on the market

It might be good to know that a bar on PBL is always opposite of diagonal corners. If you don't understand this (I suck at explaining), try R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' (a J perm) on 2x2. The left side will have two matching colors, and the opposite side (the right side) will have opposite colors. The front and back side will have adjacent colors. This pattern is always there when you have an adjacent corner swap on PBL.

Yeah, I understand what your mean.
I use this and it helps a bit but maybe i'm just to old (46) and inexperienced (6 months of cubing, mostly on 3x3) to have good reaction times 😋

You should try learning Ortega and watch a lot of j perm’s videos on the 2x2

Make more efficient first faces and then do a ton of practice. You need to improve OLL and PBL recognition and execution, but that only comes with practice. I guess you can also start trying to predict OLL, but I average low 4 and only do that on easy first faces.
If you are good at finding faces (I hope you are) every scramble should have an easy face (sub 5 moves)
