Could a new algorithm be made and popularized, perhaps more popular than CFOP?

Okay, so I've been thinking, if Tony Fisher was able to use his own solving method, (
) why can't more methods come through? I'm not complaining or anything, I mean sure we all tried some wacky ways to solve, but jeez what if one worked? If one cuber with enough influence made a decent solving method I think it would become pretty well known and people may be eager to learn, and master it. The real question though: Is it possible to make another solving method? With 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible scrambles and with just a few solving methods, 4 according to Google. There has to be more! More opportunity for growth, more chance for someone to influence the community forever.

You mean 4 popular ways to solve a cube, right? There are thousands upon thousands of methods proposed on the wiki, including:
-CFOP
-LBL
-Petrus
-ROUX
-Waterman
-Metah
-ABP
-ZZ
Etc. Those are methods I could list off of the top of my head, but I assure you, there are definitely more ways to solve the cube than you think there are. Plus, there are some sub-methods, or algorithm sheets, that make solving cases a little easier:
CLL
ZBLS
Valk-Last-Slot
Brooks Last Edge
Etc.
As to answer your question, it is possible, but I guess it is kinda happening right now.

I mean, many cubers figure out new methods by screwing around all the time. There even is a thread for it.

As for popularizing, when cubing online started in the 90s/early 2000s, open resources were Jessica Fridrich's CFOP full algorithm sheet, Gilles Roux full Algorithm set, Waterman's explanation and Lars Petrus' Website. It might be obvious from this why CFOP kept on, with Roux as a second. But now you almost never see anyone use Waterman or Petrus(I know, I know, they exist, I know a few myself, but I make a point here) nowadays.
While ZZ was only formed around 2007 and was popularized to todays viable method.
Roux in OH was seen as impossible, but as Kian Mansour and Kangorrroux got good times in 2016/2017, Roux OH was quickly popularized.

Yeah, sorry for saying only four, I knew some of the ones you listed, but I didn't wanna add to much and digress from the main subject, especially since I wanted to make this a breeze to digest. Thank you for the corrections.

To answer the question in the original post, I doubt it. The only type of method which could at least stand out from CFOP is a new mathematics-based one. Speedsolving methods/variants/substeps etc. are, as most of us know, are already plentiful (and always increasing in number). It doesn't seem like any one of them is favored by everyone . . . speedcubers all have their preferences, strengths, weaknesses, objectives, growth stages, etc.
