It's really late. Really late. I'm tired. Not near-sleep tired, but I'm definitely tired. 40 or so minutes ago, I had 3 more algorithms to learn. The two G's where the 1x1x2 block is horizontally in front and the one with it in the back horizontally to you, and N(a).
I took one look at one of the G's, performed it, and felt like I had learned it instantly. I did, and I performed several times again. Recognizing any of the G's is almost no problem. Not my fastest recognition, but it's not hard at all.

Why is this?

The G's (and N's) seem to always to be the last PLL's learned, but when you learn the G's in a group (no other PLLs until you learn those 4), it makes it easier. And learning PLLs get easier over time, usually.

So what's with them being portrayed as hard/difficult?

I guess I'm just not someone who struggles to recognize those 4 cases, but learning the algorithms for these cases? They come so easy. I learn the first one early in January, and finally learned the 2nd a few weeks ago. Then I just decided to tackle the other 2, and did.

-I learned the first by remembering the sequence of patterns.
-I learned the second by 'inversing' the patterns of the 1st and east fingertricks
-The third and forth, easy fingertricks.

Did learning the G's become progressively easier as YOU learned them?
Did you think of them as hard before attempting to learn them?
Yes or No, did your opinions change after you finally learned them?
How easy or hard was it to learn them?

I'm so happy that I just decided to go for my last 3 PLL's, and got th etwo G's in under a minute. N(a) is probably the hardest, but I can get it pretty fast.

I learned them all at once, and still use the same algs today. They were pretty easy algs to learn. Recognition definitely took some time to learn.

Did you think of them as hard before attempting to learn them?
Not at all, I was open minded with all my algs. Don't listen to what others think about them... it is all personal preference.

Yes or No, did your opinions change after you finally learned them?
No
How easy or hard was it to learn them?
Easy.

People dislike N's because, for many people, it's the slowest case. That's really the only concern. G's aren't as bad and I do think they're pretty easy to recognize. However, they're still not nearly as fast as most of the other perms. I think the only perms that are a nuisance to recognize to me are n's and e.

1.I learned my G-perms all at once. I learned all my PLLs in 2 days so I covered majority of it in the first day and continued to learn the next day. After that though there was a lot of referencing to the PLL algs but after a week or so I got all my cases down nice and neat.

2.It is harder to recognize compared to the others but I just remembered the patterns as normal, mirror, reversed and reversed mirror thus making learning the algs easier(I usually try to find a way to learn things easily, even at school so this was a norm for me)

3.No.

4.Moderate.

My N-perm is still quite slow(due to how much I lock up on those perms). Recognizing those was no problem because I just remember If the 1x1x2 block was going left thus I start with R' and vice versa.

I think a lot of ppl get scared seeing pictures like this:
pll17.gif

since it looks like a lot to do :)

I like two of then, and like the other two a bit less. The nice once are the once where you (atleast I) start with taking up a F2L-pair.
They are also rather easy to see from the pattern what you should do, if the 1x1x2 block is to the right only then just start with taking F2L-pair up.
I think ppl are more scared of them then they should be!

I learnt the first one, took me about 3 or 4 tries of copying the alg before I got it. had a gap of a few days, and then learnt the rest in one thirty minute sitting. Nice and easy, just like you found it I think!

Did you think of them as hard before attempting to learn them?
I thought of them as hard, but the moment I tried seeing what it looked/felt like to perform one (before learning) i realised I was completely wrong, and they were very very similar.

Yes or No, did your opinions change after you finally learned them?
Yes
How easy or hard was it to learn them?
Easy! Easier than all the weird ones.

They're easy to recognize if you use the ones where there's two solves corners on the left. There's other ones too, but I think those algs are less commonly used. There's only two things to look for, horizontal/vertical orientation and up/down (front/back really) placement.

I learned them in pairs. For me, G(a) was really easy to learn. Algorithm flows smoothly and all too. G(c) is basically the same thing, but everything goes the other way. I had trouble learning G(b) and G(d), but the same concept applies, because they're inverses.

In solves, I recognize which algorithm to do with G(a/c) because the pair gets broken up in the first R2, then u for front or u' for back and the rest is fairly easy. In G(b/d) the R U R' or R' U' R breaks up the pair, and completely destroys one OLL row. Now you know which y rotation to do by putting that row on the right, do R2 and just finish up.

Also for N(a) I just mirror the easy N(b) algorithm... I don't see a point in learning a harder (but faster) algorithm to shave off .5 seconds in 1/72 solves; I'm not as hardcore as some people might be.

Edit: I forgot there's multiple algs for each case... but in this case, I use all of the ones on badmephisto.com. I use most of his PLLs, but I use a different J(a), V and A(b) [A(a) backwards].

I learnt all the PLL's in about 1 hr or so.(Well, the remaining 14 of them;Caused me lots of problems as I had remembered only the algs, not how to execute them properly with minimal regrips and gaps). G Perms were not hard to memorize, but at first was quite difficult to recognize until I figured out how to recognize them.(Should have properly learnt all the PLL's :( ).

But, G-Perms are still quite slow for me. I doubt if I'd be able to sub-2 any of the G-Perms even if I go at full speed.

How do people learn all of the PLLs in one hour? >_>

It took me about 3-4 weeks to learn them all, I made sure I could execute the last one at full speed before learning more. And I only learned 1 or 2 every few days or so because of school and other things.

Check the G perms images in this site :) you can easily recognize with the color pairs.. btw i recognize them with the eyes like this..
this is a sample..

gperm.jpg

I look where the color pair and then just look at the adjacent edge, if it is opposite or not.

The G perms where some of the easiest to learn because they are all nearly the same and also the recognition is quite easy if you look for the right piece(s), I was just a bit scared of the recognition but hey, it couldn't be that hard if so many people learn them ;)

I’m fricking scared to learn my G-perms. All the other perms are easy.

XD

Go to badmephisto's site and learn one of them. Practice recognizing. You'll fing that learning them becomes really easy. I promise you that I learned the last 2 (where you insert the F2L pairs at the end) in under a minute (not each, a minute total) when I was tired in the middle of the night. :P

Recognition is pretty easy for me, I don't knoiw how you'll fair with that, but learning them is easy. Learn one, practice it, learn the second a while later, and in less time that before go learn the 3rd and then the 4th right after. Worked for me. :)

N(a) I have to memorize patterns for now, but I'll have the fingertricks down later and finally be able to start Time Attacks before the weekend's over. :)x2

I learned the G-Perms overnight, but it was hard to get together the courage :D

It just seems to people like it's impossible to recognize it.

They were intimidating because they were all so similar. But once you notice the pattern, it's fine. Everything flows in one direction and then it flows in the other direction about half-way through. The position of the corner-edge pair tells you what direction to start in and when to switch. I still tend to "generate" the correct alg at run-time based on the pair, but over time they've become more automatic.

Did learning the G's become progressively easier as YOU learned them?
I learned them more or less all at once (I don't really remember).

Did you think of them as hard before attempting to learn them?
Not really? It was kinda liek, OMG the picture lookz scary, but the algs themselves were pretty good.

Yes or No, did your opinions change after you finally learned them?
No.
How easy or hard was it to learn them?
