It could actually help you a little bit. Cube hardware is so much better now than it was back then. That's one of the reasons I was able to make it to Sub 10 in a year. Now, we have less to worry about when it comes to turning accuracy etc. Sure, we can have some problems. However, a better cube that is more modern could actually help.

trust me my turn speed is not the issue. i'm pretty sure I know what my issues are but I want to see what other people say.

Speed is not a problem but you will develop bad turning habits if you use a cube that doesn't turn easily, might affect you later.. you still can acheive a sub 20 with that cube but better to get used to good finger tricks beforehand.

Might even cause some hand problems as well. We already have to worry about hand pain as cubers. It doesn't help if you have a bad cube.
