Time spent doesn’t mean someone knows the rules/follows them

I'm not sure you realise just how far 1000 SOR is from where you currently are.

There are currently 17 WCA events, which means that to get a 1000 SOR, your average rank needs to be 1000/17 = 58.8 or lower. These are the WR59 singles in the seventeen events:
333: 5.29
222: 0.73
444: 24.79
555: 49.21
666: 1:37.19
777: 2:23.28
3BLD: 22.49
FMC: 22
OH: 8.97
Clock: 5.14
Megaminx: 38.65
Pyraminx: 1.49
Skewb: 1.43
Square-1: 6.73
4BLD: 3:03.53
5BLD: 8:14.33
MBLD: 21 points

You're looking at at least months of work for almost every single event to reach that level, and of course by then, competitions around the world will have resumed and it'll get even harder. You might also want to keep in mind that currently, there is only one person in the whole world who has SOR ≤ 1000: Martin Egdal, SOR 694. Second place is Tommy Cherry at almost double, SOR 1361.

I mean, it's nice to aim high, but maybe don't aim this high right off the bat.

All the best for your improvement, personally I believe chasing numbers isn't that good. It is just better to focus on good cubing habits and improving.

I do agree I am trying to do what you said first, and then as I get better. Try out more events

I'm not sure why, but when I first read this I somehow imagined it was saying KinchRank instead of sum of ranks, and I was thinking goidlon wanted to be in the top 1000 among KinchRanks. That at least would not be an unreasonable goal - perhaps it would be a good starting spot.

Based on the (home) results goidlon posted early in this thread, his KinchRank score would be around 15.14, which would rank around 7140 in the world. So it would still be quite an accomplishment to bring that up to top 1000 (which, at the moment, would mean a KinchRank of 31.92). But it's probably achievable with a lot of work, and might be a good goal for a thread like this.

Sub 1 on square 1 is fully practice. Then I would recommend learning the cp algorithms(very easy and intuitive), and scallop-kite cubeshape. I have sub-30 with only these

I'm pretty sure I know just about as many cases as you do plus 5-6 easy EP algs and I average high 11. Square-1 isn't as hard as you think.

Very good mains, but I would recommend getting either the ylm magnetic square 1 or the volt v2 m if you have the money. the v1 is prone to breakage, and is not that good.
