I'm trying to decide if i should learn VLS+HLS or ZBLL. Which is faster, RLS+PLL or EO+ZBLL? Would it be useful to know both, or would you just get an RLS case every time once you set up the pair?

I think you're better off learning EO+ZBLL, the number of algs is lesser I think, and it (maybe) saves more moves than RLS.

ZBLS into ZBLL will save more moves. VLS and HLS are algorithms that are about as long as OLLs but do the OLL while inserting the last pair. ZBLL will definitely save more moves because it does OLL and PLL in 1 alg that is about as long as PLL.

is zbls worth it compared to just eo

Doing ZBLS means you don't have to do EO at the start of the solve and you can do the last F2L slot with some F move alg that orients edges. I think that's worth it cuz lookahead in ZZ is apparently harder than in CFOP.
ZZ lookahead is easier

He means doing LS->FRURUF(or whatever)->ZBLL

which isn't worth it. Partial edge control during F2L is good though, and ZBLS is worth it if you're actually willing to learn it

I think for me ZBLL is better becuase of move count but also some of the VLS/HLS is just insert+oll+pll so it's not really doing much and also slowing you down. ZBLL also has less algs although I'm not sure what your stance is on that.

ZBLL is better than VLS. And it's better than VLS+HLS just due to sheer alg difference

Yeah that's not worth it. The whole point of ZBLL is to do the last layer in 1 alg and it wouldn't be worth it if you forced a cross on top with F sexy or inverse sexy F'
