Hello Speedcubers,

I’m Michael from Germany (near Winterberg NRW). I’m 28 years old and started cubing this July. Although I originally wanted to start back in 2015 when a friend brought a cube to a houseparty. But my mistake was buying a rubiks brand thinking the other ones were just knockoffs. I stopped cubing and started again when I stumbled upon the Giiker Cube in July this year.

I’m currently averaging around 55 seconds using CFOP with 4 Look last layer and I’m currently learning Full PLL (7/14). My “mains” are the 356x/xs and gts3m. I can’t really decide... :D.

I’m looking for some people i can share my new hobby with.

Welcome! Not to be discouraging, but you don’t really need Full PLL yet. Practise is the main thing at your speed. You can get at least sub 20 with 4LLL. But I’m just (forgot the expression) spitballing(?)

yeah you are probably right with that theory. I’ve read tutorials that said you should use beginner method until you are sub50 or something like that. But i really likes the learning part of cubing. I only learn 1 alg per week. The rest of the time i focus on f2l. what do you guys think ist the best way to train f2l? I currently do many slow solves and plan a f2l pair completely in my head before i execute it. Don’t know if thats the right tactic.

Do what you want! I think you should learn all the F2L algs (algorithm way or intuitive) and drill them, so you can see a pair, and instantly be able to execute the alg. Don’t forget the cross either! Use inspection to try find all your cross pieces before around 13 seconds. But at your stage, it’s really just practise :). Enjoy it while you can. Once you get faster, it‘ll become harder...

Plus don’t have F2L tunnel vision.

haha :D i heard about tunnel vision as well. At the beginning i really did the first pair i could spot.
I think I’ll go go with with the intuitive way of learning the f2l cases since i think there are to many of them to learn a algorithm for each case. Although i sometimes use the f2l sheet from cubeskills if i think i don’t know the optimal solution.

do you use CFOP as well? I’ve read your post about sub8 on petrus a few weeks ago.

Nah, full Petrus user. I’m fairly experienced in CFOP (basically Petrus step 4b for F2L), 3LLL and decent cross planning. Most methods are linked to others in a way. Almost every method uses a last layer e.g.

i wish there were more of them too. I don’t have anyone in my life to share my thoughts with. My friend learned the beginners method but stopped after that.

maybe someone from around here will see my post. But i highly doubt it. I wonder why cubing isn’t that popular. Maybe cubes like the 356i will get people into Cubing. But the problem is that it is too expensive. Especially here in Germany. 130€ on Amazon (only available there). I got lucky. I bought it on speedcubeshop and it slipped though customs. I saved 50€ :D

nice to see another German on the forum :)

Yay :D to bad you are not here anymore. Do you know a german community or discord for cubing. Haven’t found anything. The “official” german forum is very inactive.

I know that there is the discord server of CubaroCubing.
I didn't link it because then the post has to be controlled by a speed solving forum moderator
so just go on one of his videos and look in the description

Wow thats a long time. So your parents probably moved to France and to you with them, right?

What do you think? Which country has more speedcubers ? :D

My parents are still in Germany and I am 51 :) Can’t really say where there are more speedcubers, I am myself rather new to speedcubing and this forum.

wow that’s awesome to see that speedcubing happens across so many generations. What’s your average?
