So I am a newb and have solved a 3x3 once, and now I can't. So, now I focus on 2x2's, in the near future I will probably learn the 3x3, but 2x2 is my buddy for now.
Just 6 days ago, I bought a 2x2 and started digging. Just a normal Rubik's company from ToysRUs lol, but a fine starter. I learned how to solve it the same day, but it took 3-7 minutes to solve it with a random beginner method on YouTube. I brought it down to 50 secs the same day, the next day was shortened to 40. (I actually got a SUPER lucky 15.30 but I don't count that really, as well as a couple of other lucky runs between 15-30.) And now to 3 days ago, the day I tried Ortega, the algs were actually quite overwhelming and having to check for each scenario, and I actually still had trouble with a couple of them until this morning. So now I manage Ortega fine with a Single PB of 11.96 (Though that also required a pound of luck, I like to use 14.92 as my PB) as well as an Ao5 of 23.25.

So the question, is this good for 6 days of work? Or am I just a dweeb who's gettin full of themselves? I will likely try Guimmond after I do my Ortega Ao100 to see which is better, I heard it uses more algs. Any other tips?

--EDIT 1--
Hello It is now day 10 and I have improved, new status and old status:
4 days ago:
Non-Lucky PB - 14.92
Lucky PB - 11.96
Ao5 - 23.25
Cube: Rubik's Brand
Method: Ortega

Now: (Tuesday, October 15th)
Non-Lucky PB - 12.90
Lucky PB 9.80
Ao5 - 21.00
Ao12 - 18.519
One Hand (I don't practice this)
1:36.95
Cube: Rubik's Brand
Method: Ortega

--EDIT 2--
Day 11: (Wednesday, October 16th)
Non-Lucky PB: 12.90
Lucky PB: 7.93 (WOWIE! from 9.80 jumping to 7.93!)
Ao5: 17.34
Ao12: 18.519
One Hand (I don't practice this)
1:36.95
Cube: Rubik's Brand
Method: Ortega

dont do guimond also your doing great!
Thank you so much! Also, yeah, when I heard of Guimond I didn't want to do it because it already took me 2ish days to memorize Ortega. So I don't know what hell Guimond will give me, but I heard it differs from person to person, and that it's a debate nobody is quite sure about. I'm just gonna try it and see how it feels. (Or if I simply can't comprehend the algs like I said lol)

That’s completely normal - it took me like a month to learn to solve the 3x3, of prompting from my brother. (Mostly just learning some algs, and the two step Sunes for some last layer cases. Now (I average high twenties) I look back and go:
I could’ve learnt that in less than 10 minutes if you’d given me the algs, cases and steps on a sheet!

You might want to consider 3x3 as well
:)
How did you forget to solve it?

No, that’s so awesome! Remind yourself that a lot of great cubes started out very similar to you. Nobody is always good. And honestly, I wouldn’t feel bad about having a very lucky single as your PB. world records are inherently lucky, yet they’re still counted as official! Just figure out how you want to improve. I would recommend starting 3x3 once you feel you’ve hit a wall with 2x2.

Yeah, lol I know, I just use my non-lucky PB cuz It shows my skill a bit better. And I will probably start doing 3x3 this weekend or next week whether i hit a wall with 2x2 or not. And I will aldo likely try Pyraminx, Pyramorphinx and MAYBE 4x4 by Christmas.

I only did 3x3 ONCE, and it was almost a year ago, I followed a video and asked my friends to help, I tried to memorize but I would say it usually takes 2-5 tries to fully memorize for me.

You are doing awesome, just keep on practicing with Ortega.
Improvement will come rapidly at your stage, I expect you will get a sub 20 average tomorrow or at least this week ;)
Yeah, I think that will happen. My weak points with Ortega are 2 or 3 algs that mess me up and can add 10-40 seconds to my run oof, working on that though!

To me, yes.

To others, maybe not.

Sucking is subjective, and you cant really ask anyone if you suck, because their opinion is gonna be different.

I guess so, but I mean in a perspective where you've only known how to for 6 days. Which is still subjective, but...

my PB with Ortega is 1.70
Nice! I heard it was best for Sub-5. Still trying to get my turn speed up, and I'll be getting better equipment in a few months. My friend told me he did0.89 with Ortega, but I swear to god, I'd never be able to do that with this damn ToysRUs cube, or my slow turn speed.

You don't suck Parke187 is probably just messing with you. He is probably just looking at your times...not the amount of time you've been cubing...or the rapid improvement you're experiencing. Keep practicing and you will get a lot better!!

Yeah, I've not actually tackled Guimond yet like I said I would (I will eventually, but I've found a whole new world with Ortega. Like trying to be colour neutral, predict OLL during inspection, and predict PBL during OLL (that last one is sorta hard)

rapid improvement is pretty easy for 2x2.
Also, the time he has been cubing doesnt matter at all. He still sorta sucks, but that WILL change if he continues, and that should serve as motivation.

Don’t worry about it. You may not be super fast, but you are progressing quickly. You will be pretty good soon. Plus, no one will judge you based on your times.

I agree...sub-5 was hard to break but what did it was OLL during inspection and color neutrality

No offense Parke187, but he doesn't suck and the time you have been cubing matters a lot.

In that case, rapid improvement is not rapid and is normal on 2x2, so that means rapid is normal and normal is rapid, or- wait what am i saying?

Thanks a lot! I hit a wall for 2 days (which feels like an eternity for a 2x2 beginner) but I'm progressing quite a bit again.

OLL during inspection is confusing me, but I think it's just because I've only looked at one OLL inspection video, and It was hard to see and hear so if I properly sit down and try to understanding, I think I can do it. Colour neutrality I tried once or twice and I think it reduced my time, but I'll have to get an average.

Also hooray! I broke my record so many times today!

I got 13.43 as a new PB (not counting extreme luck)
I also broke my ao5 which went from 23.25 to 21.00
Got a new lucky PB (so including extreme luck) of 9.XX (I recorded the last 2 digits on a loose-leaf paper somewhere)
And then I broke my non-lucky PB again at 12.XX (same story with those 2 digits)
I did an ao12 of 18.519 (despite my a05 being several whole seconds over my ao12)

So my new status:
Lucky PB: 9.XX seconds
Non-Lucky PB: 12.XX seconds
ao5: 21.00 seconds
ao12: 18.52 seconds
One-Handed (I don't practice this I just did it once) 1:36.95 (96.95 seconds) lol wtf
