Hi Everyone, I am 35+ Yrs old and new to speed cubing. Currently I solve a 3X3 using beginners method in approximately 1:30 but working towards learning CFOP. Earlier I never cared for speed but now since its speed cubing for me , I would like to get your advice on certain issues I am facing .
Some times my eyes get fixated on certain cases which are very easy other wise .For example while solving U perm with the solved edge behind, I have to pause to see if the edges need to move clockwise or anticlockwise and this pause can be 3-4 seconds long .
The other thing is that I have to visualize the clock on the face to perform moves like B, B' ,D,D' L,L' while for R,R' U U' I do not have to think .
I like to execute algs involving M slice . I have gained good speed in H and Z perms(M' and M2 ) but when the algs involve M move like U Perm, its not getting into my muscle memory,I need to change grip and have to pause too.

I would like to hear your views and advice on this matter. I am practicing the standard algs recommended by Jperm in his channel but Do you think it will work for me one day or Am I just beating the bush and should rather go for algs involving U and R moves only?
Sorry for being descriptive but I am of the opinion that "Well begun is half done" , so I want to teach myself the correct way rather than learning from mistakes .Moreover unlearning curve at this age is also difficult :)

Thanks

These are the same problems I had about 3 months ago. They go away with time and practice and although when scrambling I visualise the clock as well sometimes, most algs are in my head as "ok do this this this this this" rather than "R U R F' U2" etc. I also struggle still with 'M' turns, but this should go away soon as well.

Ua, Ub perms
Don't think in terms of clockwise or counterclockwise cycles, look at the left of the cube and look at the stickers:
- if they're opposite (red/orange/red for instance) do the Ub perm (cw alg)
- if they're not (red/green/red) do the Ua perm (ccw alg)

Note: if you prefer, you can look at the right of the cube instead

Cube notation
Don't worry about it, it'll naturally come with practice.
If you want to work on that though, go on csTimer and choose the scramble image in the tool box. Scramble the cube and see if it matches the image: if it does, congrats you made no mistake ! If it doesn't, you made a mistake somewhere ;)

M/U fingertricks
Since you're mentioning Jperm, here's a video where he shows how he fingertricks the <M,U> U perms:

This seems to be the case with me now, as I'm learning to become colour neutral. I will do Red Cross for a few days for example, then go back to white after a bit, and be totally useless. Don't worry, it will go away with time and practice. :)

Occasionally I like to play Flute. One thing about flute is that there is a sweet spot where we need to blow the air precisely otherwise the sound will not come. Same thing is happening to me in case of M move .Some times the fingure moves the slice and most of the time it just tries to move and then I have to change the grip .I am doing the same way as in the video above but looks like I havent found that sweet spot yet :)

Ye, and if you remember when you first played flute you didnt know where that sweet spot is, right? But after a while, you found it, somewhat inconsistently, yes, but you found it. And after a while longer you found it and could find it every time right? The same thing will happen, after a while those slice turns will be really easy. If you keep working on it you will find it and it will help you improve as a cuber.

Wow I'm 13 I love feeling bigger and better and more knowledgeable than adults.
