How did you get into cubing?

Started cubing with a crusty rubik's brand. Learnt how to solve it using TheSergsB's tutorial on Youtube:

Took me a long while to realise that a corner was put in the wrong way around (twisted) so it was unsolvable. I finally decided to disassemble the 3x3 and reassemble it solved before continuing to learn how to complete it. Wanted to get faster so I began experimenting with Vaseline until the stickers came off.

I have now got into speedcubing again and have bought my first speedcubes from cubezz.com. I would definitely recommend this store for its cheap prices and free international shipping. I bought an MF3RS2 and Yuxin Little Magic 2x2 and am continuing to improve at CFOP as well as Ortega for 2x2.

I learned to solve a 3x3 when is was in grade 1 using LBL, and averaged around 2 minutes. since then, I have forgotten and relearnt many times, but only recently have I gotten into speed cubing. one of my mates brought a cube to school and I offered to solve it. I got myself a Moyu weilong gts2m,, and dropped my times to around 30 seconds, after learning F2l and 2 look all and pll. I have since bought a Gan 356 X, Yj mgc 2x2, x-man megaminx, an x-man wingy skewb, mofang jiaoshi kibiminx, some random Pyraminx, and now average around 26 seconds with partial CFOP

Well a few months ago, I had a couple friends that cubed, and I got interested, so I got a cube. They helped me reach sub-40, and now I'm faster than them

I actually have a funny story about how i started cubing, i saw my brother's friend speedsolving many years back, doing nice fingertricks and turning really fast. i thought that was really cool and basically faked turning really fast and doing fingertricks while not actually knowing how to solve the cube. as a naive kid i thought if i randomly turned it long enough i could just solve it some day! The guy gave me his cube since i liked it so much, but then i kind of tried to solve it myself intuitively, and i got stuck at f2l.
Fast forward a few years later when i saw my friends solving cubes during lunch, and i remembered my old cube and i wanted to be as fast as them, so I learned from Noah Richardson and basically started off from there!

I was fiddling around with a 2x2, timing how fast I could solve one side of a 2x2. One lucky time when I solved red, the entire cube was solved. A couple weeks later I looked at the tutorial and then started learning how to solve a 2x2.

I saw a cube in Barnes and Noble at the Ala Moana mall (Waikiki in Hawaii). My mom let me get it as a souvenir but little did she know that I would become addicted to it over the course of a few years. I now average around 11.75 seconds and am shooting for sub-10 by mid-October (my next comp date).

My dad said he said he would give me $20 if i could solve it. That was it, no help, no instructions. So, nine-year-old me kept talking about it. one day at the mall, my mom was on her phone and just blurted out, "Do you guys want to learn how to solve a Rubik's cube!?" At the time it was like four months after my dad told me what he said. I told her yes and we went to a cubing summer camp a friend at school was doing. His name was Luke, he was nice. That was it, i got the 20 bucks and that was it, but i realized that people thought it was cool and i liked doing it. so i kept doing it, now i am almost sub 20 on 3x3.

I have an interesting story on why I got fast at cubing: I received a Rubik's brand cube on Christmas 2016 but didn't open it until January. I scrambled it up, but whenever I touched it my goal wasn't to solve the whole thing. It was just to solve one side. My dad said he would give me $10 if I could solve it. I gave up trying to solve one side on my own about 5 days later and I went to the website on the box: Rubiks.com and learned how to solve it. I quickly became able to solve it in under a minute and heard of a method called the Fridrich method which was supposedly faster, but I didn't feel like I was ready for it yet. I was assigned a science fair project for my homeschool tutorial which was due in March. My teacher recommended a website called sciencebuddies.com. After spending hours looking at that site searching through thousands of project ideas to find one I would like. I stumbled upon a project idea ON THAT SITE entitled, "What's the fastest method to solve a Rubiks Cube" and I was like, "Well, I could test if the Fridrich method is really faster than what I would do now. I had to give the Fridrich method a fair amount of time to be fair and decided I would do two experiments: One to see which method has fewer moves, and one to see which method I could get faster times on. I got a guoguan yuexiao speed cube which had an awesome pamphlet with all 41 f2l algs and all the algs for full oll and pll. I only had time to memorize 2 look oll and pll for the experiment but I just looked at the full oll sheet for the moves experiment. Sure enough, the CFOP method was faster on both the moves experiment and the time experiment. Shortly after I presented my experiment and blew the minds of all my classmates, I really developed a passion for cubing. As a little kid, I always loved challenges and loved to do things over and over again to see the number which represented how good I was change. i became sub 20 3 months after I started cubing, I became sub 15 2 months later, and then at that point it was kind of cool to see my avg of 1000 solves drop about a second every month. I would sit down for hours just solving over and over again, just waiting to see the avg of 1000 drop below 10 seconds until finally it did, only 10 months after I started cubing.

My brother brought me a shitty cube from chinese store and he though I can do it (I never had one in my hands before). I was 11 or 12 at the time. Learned in one day, then i was just hooked.
