I would compete if I were you. I would get better cubes, especially 2x2 and 3x3. I did my first competition when I averaged around 40 seconds. I now average 25, and I have not competed since, but that is because there are hardly any comps in Colorado. But at my first competition, my brother averaged 1:13-ish, and he did not finish last. I would try it out, and get an idea of what a competition is like, so you can prepare for your next one.

Competitions are a fun experience and even if you should go even if you average several minutes. In my first competition, I got a 43 average although I was averaging 1 minute. You never know what can happen, you might do better under pressure.

I sub 30 seconds and I have been cubing for 1 year. I really want to find others who enjoy cubing so I convinced myself to join a nearby competition. Any tips?

Hi! Yes, your speed doesn't matter just go to a competition. My tip, remember just to have fun! Don't worry too much about solves, but still try to do well. Talk to a lot of people and make new friends!

Edit: Check out the then second half of this podcast episode for some great tips on how to meet and talk with other cubers. Start at minute 30:20 if you don't want to listen to the whole episode: https://thecornercutterpodcast.com/2019/01/26/cube-setup-and-conversation-tips_cuberchats-tccp67/

Good luck!

I am averaging around 11 seconds at home in the Pyraminx, but I have a really cruddy beginner's model, causing me not to practice. If I was to get a nice Pyraminx, and if I practice a lot, when should I start looking into nearby comps?

There's no reason to wait. You're competition ready right now. Go, have a good time.

I've been to 86 competitions and still average over 11s on pyraminx. Might as well start competing now, its fun!

Regarding of skill, I think everyone is competition ready. For me, competitions are for socializing and I'm never into much on competitive cubing.

I've never been to a comp and I don't know if I'm good enough to compete. My 3x3 Average is around a minute, My 2x2 average is around 8 seconds, and my 4x4 average is around 2-3 minutes, and I'm learning 5x5 and OH. I was wondering what you have to know how to do before walking into a competition?

All you need to do is register. You might want to check the cutoffs to make sure you will be able to make them in every event.
