I've only recently gotten into cubing but had a question for some of the more seasoned people on here...
Has anyone ever attempted to reduce the 4x4x4 (or any big cube, I suppose) to a 2x2x2 state? Obviously the trick would be what the algs may be for properly aligning all the center 2x2 areas so that they landed in the proper places - My thought was just that since the 2x2x2 is so much easier to solve than a 3x3x3 that perhaps even any possible slowdown of the "build" phase would be worth the tradeoff once that was done - plus you wouldn't have to worry about parity
Didn't know if it had ever been tried or what other people may think of the idea, just figured I would ask
