So, how are reconstructions discovered?

Just another thing that had me thinking...

Is it possible to find reconstructions of say, a walk-through solve?

In other words, can you simply figure out a scramble from a Youtube video without the creator making it?

There's this link where @Brest explains his process but it's quite old so maybe he has improved it?

A couple of things I can think of to improve on that comment:

  • You can now use alg.cubing.net instead of alg.garron.us
  • alg.cubing.net also has a feature where you can end with the cube being solved, i.e. there's no need to generate a scramble unless you plan on looking at the solution on a real cube. Where it initially says "Moves" in the settings, change it to "Reconstruction (no scramble)".
  • You can now go back/foward one frame at a time on YouTube (using , and .)
  • Scrambles for official comps are available on wcadb.net
