How to solve a 2x2x2 BLD.

To start, you might read http://cubefreak.net/BLD/3OP_guide.html . The key to BLD is being able to make controlled changes to as few cubies as possible, while leaving everything else intact. So, if you know how to twist one corner clockwise and another anti-clockwise, and if you know how to swap 2 or 3 corners, then you will be able to do 2x2 BLD.

Odin - I'll make a quick guide for 2x2x2 BLD and post it. It will be based on very easy memorization, you'll need to memorize a maximum of 15 numbers to solve it, and more than half of those will be single digit numbers like 0, 1, or 2.

all you need to know for 2x2 BLD:

you only need to use the alg RU'R'U'RUR'F'RUR'U'R'FR
the alg swaps ULB to DFR and the U face sticker gets put on the R side of DFR. You use setup moves to bring whatever peice is next to the DFR location but only setup moves that don't move arond the ULB corner. solving goes like. setup moves, alg, undo the setup moves. If the ULB ends up solved, just swap with another corner that isnt solved yet, and continue to solve as normal. Also at the end if any peices are in place just flipped then ULB will be flipped also so just bring flipped peice to UFL and if needed to be CW twisted then do RUR'U' L' URU'R' L then put peice back to location. if needed to be CCW twisted then after bringing to UFL do URU'R' L' RUR'U' L and back to location. To memorize you should memo just the first letter of the colour you are swapping and tap the position where it is going so you remember what peice it is. (example: if start of memo was O and you knew it was DBR then the peice is obviously Blue, orange, yellow)
memo should normally be no more than 6-7 letters and memorize the positions where you swap to.

That's basically it :D

edit: example solve,

scramble: R' F2 L2 U2 F2 U2 B2 R B R2 U (White U Red F)

first peice in ULB is YOG with Yellow on top so that goes to R of DFR.

so the YOG peice would be in DBL and you need to bring the side that Yellow would be into R of DFR.
so you would do the setup moves, DF' then alg, then undo DF' so thats (FD') then that peice is solved.
the rest of solving would go like this:

next peice: BYR - just do alg
next peice: WBR- setup (F), alg, F'
next peice: ULB is solved, so switch with any peice (DFL) - D, alg, D'
next peice: WOB - setup (RD'), alg, DR'
next peice: GRY - setup (DFD), alg, D'F'D'
next peice: all solved but need to twist UFL so: no moves required so just CCW alg (URU'R' L' RUR'U' L)

memo would be: YBW, new cycle, WG.

Then hopefully don't forget to twist UFL at the end :P

then solved!

Hope it helps.

2x2x2 BLD Guide

To solve the 2x2x2 blindfolded, you must first be aware of your color scheme. Always know the faces and where they belong. For example, when I do 2x2x2 BLD, I always picture white top, red front, green left, blue right, orange back, and yellow bottom. Make sure you know a system, and memorize it. You will need it.

This method is a 2-cycle based system, meaning it uses 2-cycles instead of 3-cycles.

2x2x2 BLD (and all BLD, for that matter) consists of two steps, memorization and execution. For memorization and execution there are two steps that are part of that, memorization and execution of orientation and memorization and execution of permutation. I will take you through each of these steps:

1. Memorization of Orientation
First look at the top layer, and look at the corner at UFR. If it has a top or bottom layer sticker on the U face, remember 0 for that. If not, if it is rotated clockwise (needs to be twisted counter-clockwise), remember 1. If it is rotated counter-clockwise (needs to be twisted clockwise), remember 2. Repeat this for UBR and then UBL, and you will have a string of numbers like this:

(020)

Then go to the bottom layer and repeat the procedure started with DFL, then DFR, then DBR, then DBL. You will have two strings of numbers like this:

(020)(1111)

2. Memorization of Permutation
For this you will need to know my numbering system:

UFL - 1, UFR - 2, UBR - 3, UBL - 4, DFL - 5, DFR - 6, DBR - 7, DBL - 8

First look at the piece in position 3, and look at where it needs to go. Let's say it belongs in 5. Remember 5. Now look in position 5, and see where that piece belongs. Let's say it belongs in position 1. Remember 1. Say one belongs in position 3 again. Now remember that entire sequence of numbers:

(351)

Now begin with a new corner, let's say corner 4, you can choose any number though. Finish that cycle, and then remember it. IMPORTANT: ALL CYCLES THAT DO NOT START WITH 3 IN THIS METHOD SHOULD HAVE THE FIRST NUMBER REPEATED AT THE END.

This means that the cycle, maybe it is (478) should actually be (4784). Once you know where each one needs to go, you will have something like this:

(351)(4784)(262)

It's time to pull down the blindfold and begin execution.

I'm not done writing the second section, it takes me a while to write. But hopefully you should be able to master this, ask some questions, before beginning execution.

Sorry about this taking a while.

I'm about to make a separate post, with my entire 2x2x2 BLD guide, where you can post comments about my guide, and I'll make changes. It should be up in about a minute, maybe less.
