[Member Intro] HI - Im learning cubing for shallow pride reasons!

Ive just noticed that I havent been using google chrome with that cube timer webpage since i did my first LBL beginner method solves - that screen shot has my first few solves of both lbl (9mins20something then 4m44) and now roux. Whos betting my first ever solve with zz would also be 9mins? (Not that Im about to learn anything other than roux for a looong time, however)

Hi and thanks for the welcomes. Deedubb I was just watching one of your videos actually, very well put together vids if I may say so.

I am currently learning roux, while also trying to get my beginner LBL a bit faster of course. I am mostly following Donovans Roux videos on youtube. I chose roux a few weeks ago because of a fellow britain call alexander lau who makes solving the cube look like brain-artwork rather than just blitz-of-moves.

The young lass I mentioned earlier has told me she has started to learn CFOP. This might turn into a year of in-school classic battle!

Thanks! Yeah, I think Roux is quite good for older solvers because it's move efficient. I can't execute algs as fast as the kids, but due to my efficiency, I can get decent times. I gave CFOP a really good shot. For about six months, I practiced nothing but CFOP, but couldn't get that sub-20 average. Roux is just a lot nicer for me. I think both methods are great though, and I enjoy both of them. I'm not a huge fan of ZZ, but I know it's also pretty solid. If there's anything I can do to help you out with Roux, let me know. I'm working on a pretty comprehensive video now. It should be great.

Also, I started a Roux facebook page here. You should join up and participate in the weekly Roux competition. Your times will be slow compared to others, but many people have used the weekly competitions to fuel their growth. A lot of great solvers have gotten faster from participating. I highly recommend that as a way to track your progress. It's nice to see your times keep dropping week by week.

Don't worry about the first solves being slow, my first timed ones with Roux where more than 7 minutes long (see graph attached, you'll get to 1 minute soon) and now almost 5000 timed solves later (probably 7000 or so in total) I'm at 30 seconds, which is faster than I had hoped for (since I'm kinda old too).

zz is more conceptually difficult, so my guess is that it would take longer!

welcome to the forums, and the UK community! don't let the fast times you see at competitions discourage you from coming - they're pretty chill in general and great places to meet cubers/learn new things!
