Here's a little history of my cubing so far.

When we were little, 10 or so, my brother and I used to mess with cubes. I had no idea real humans could actually solve them. If they came with the instructions like they do today I never realized it. We would get one face of the cube solved and I think that was it. Not even correctly solved for the edges I'm sure. :)

Then in 2004 I heard the country song "19 something" that mentions the Rubik's cube. I remember thinking, "Hey, everything is on the internet today, I could learn how to solve it!" It was more the thought of having a fun party trick to impress people, you know like why I practice saying the Seven Dwarfs in 1.5 seconds, or saying the alphabet backwards. So I Googled it and I found Lars Petrus' site. After a few weeks (months?) of practice I could solve it decently, a little over two minutes was my best time. I was satisfied. I did order a do it yourself speed cube just because my Walmart one was pretty stiff, but I wasn't interested in being fast really. I would go so long between touching one that I would have to brush up on the moves sometimes.

That was until a few weeks ago. One of the kids at my church had a cube and I asked if he could solve it. I was excited, it had been quite a while since I got to show off the backwards alphabet or anything so I thought I'd have a chance to look cool. He said yeah he does it... and can do it in about 1:30... using the beginner method. Then I tried it once to show him and forgot my sequences, how sad. I at least impressed him that the way I learned was one of the more advanced techniques (even though I forgot it at the time). :)

I came home and wanted to learn more about it and started Googling the cube for the first time in years. I was amazed to see how many really good cubers are out there, and I became inspired to practice. I went ahead and learned the CFOP / Fridrich method, and ordered three new speed cubes off Amazon prime. With a week or so of learning some new things I think I hit 1:30 or so. Also I know I'm more legit now because I instinctively scramble the cube every time I finish, just like cubers do. :) Right now, several weeks later, I'm averaging about 51 seconds. My best time is 29.6 something seconds, that was a lucky finish though.

Looking forward to the forums!!

Edit 11/12/2015 - Down to just under 30 seconds average, with a PB of 18.86. :)

11/30/2015 - PB 18.721 now. Haha
