I just joined the forums today and thought it would be nice to introduce myself.

My name is Jade and I learned how to solve a Rubik's cube in 4th grade using the Dan Brown method. After many years of not touching the Rubik's brand Rubik's cube I have at home, I became interested in cubing. :) I am trying out the CFOP method right now. I can do intuitive F2L very slowly and 2-look OLL. I am trying to memorize full PLL and have not bothered to learn it 2-look. I have an unmodded V-Cube.

Anyway, it's nice to join the community of speedsolvers here. :D My average right now is sub 1-minute by doing Dan Brown method (pretty bad I know), I plan on getting my average under 50 seconds after learning full PLL and practicing F2L. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get a sub-25 time, but cubing is still pretty interesting :D

On the other hand, 1:30 solves with Dan Brown method can still amaze most people at my school, haha.

Nice to meet you all. :)

You'd actually be surprised how much you improve if you decide you want to get fast. When I first started, I figured I'd be happy if I could get sub-25, and look at my sig now.
Anyway, welcome to the forum. Nobody's mean here, don't worry :D

When I first joined the forums, my ultimate dream goal was to average sub-20. As of today, I no longer have any long-term goals. Don't say you don't think you'll ever reach a goal, because then you won't.

You really don't need F2L and PLL to be fast. I got a sub-30 average of 5 today using Layer-By-Layer and 4-look last layer. However, it never hurts to start early! Just keep practicing, and improvement will happen.

I wish you the best of luck!

Welcome to the forums! :-)

BTW, what is the Dan brown method?

Thanks for being so nice :D

I don't know how to explain it using fancy terms, but you get the cross, the corners, and then the edges of the second layer just like the beginner's method. Afterwards you get the cross on top, permute the edges of the cross, and then permute the corners. Finally, you use sexy move to orient the corners :D

Hey, that's the method I first learned! :D I use a very similar method for Megaminx, but for last layer, I do edge orientation, edge permutation, corner orientation, than corner permutation.

So pretty much Beginner's method with a z rotation turning the commutators into sexy moves?

Dan Brown was way before my time, but if I understand correctly, his youtube videos were the first thing that started making cubing visible to a large audience, back in the early 2000's. It's kind of THE standard beginner's method I think.
Someone like Chris Hardwick who was actually in the community back then would know much more about it than me :P

Hi I am a new member too.(Well I am on this site for about 1-2 months I guess but never introduced myself)
I first started solving Rubik's Cube using a CFCE-based method form CFCE.After a few weeks I was averaging around 1:30(minutes and seconds of course) (also I was a slow understander). Then my cube broke and I was not cubing for about a year. Then brought a Zanchi and my time came down to 1 minute. Then I slowly proceded to F2L(intuitive) and at ~45 sec. I switched to CFOP.
My current average is around 35 seconds and PB is around 25 sec.I have learned 2-Look OLL and 14/21 PLLs(Although I suck with 3 of them. A Perms and E perms) .Also I now use a Aolong V2 new batch with some local machine oil as lube.
How can I improve.

use silicone oil like traxxas or lubix, normal oil will destroy your cube. For improvement, just keep solving, I know only 4LLL and never do slow solves or any kind of training and have gotten to sub 19
