What are you trying to say? Cubing is cheap entertainment, and you could say that EVERYTHING intended for the purpose of not making your life miserable is a waste of money. If you have extra money, why wouldn't you buy something that makes you entertained? Some entertainment is cheaper than others, but as long as its entertainment (and keeps you entertained for a reasonable amount of time) its not a waste.

There is a difference between cubing and collecting cubes.

As far as cubing, it is educational and is a fantastic way to build spacial reasoning skill as well as basic cognitive development.

Collecting cubes is only valuable to those who want to collect (like Magic cards, stamps, coins, etc.)

Cubes are a waste of money. I don't think I know anyone who has come up ahead in cubing. Even the people who have made some money have probably spent more money on traveling to competitions than they've ever made.

Buying one cube and solving it for years is only a slight waste of money. Good luck leaving it at that.

In my opinion, cubing is a waste. Speedcubing is not.

If you're cubing just to look cool, then you should reconsider your motives. If you're speedcubing just to look cool, then you should reconsider your career.

Cubing is a waste of money if you're not interested in it. My brother requested like $90 worth of cubes and lube for Christmas, and hasn't opened the lube yet. Most of his cubes are on the floor, disassembled, too.

it is absolutely a waste of money if youre the type of person who buys every new 3x3 that comes out. the cubes here now are so good that any improvement in hardwear would be negligible and not worth buying... unless youre are at the level where youre performance could actually be hindered by it (sub 8.5 or summfin like that).
