Hello everyone!

I'm from Moscow, Russia. Currently I work in software development, and in my previous life aI was a physicist (MS degree in radiophysics). My hobbies besides cubing are Go, chess programming and playing guitar.
I learnt how to solve 3x3x3 in my childhood more than 30 years ago. My first cube was original Hungarian one from PolyToys. It was not very easy to buy such a cube in USSR in 1983 :) I used elementary methods from Soviet popular scientific magazines "Kvant" (edges, then corners) and "Nauka i Zhizn'" (layer-by-layer). Then there was a "small" break... This summer I bought DaYan II v2 GuHong and returned to my old hobby. My timed solves were about 2-3 min. After first month I reached a milestone, sub-60, both with beginners method and intuitive F2L.
Some days ago I switched to stickerless MoYu Weilong cube. Its colour scheme is a bit exotic for me, but I plan to become truly colour neutral.
And - yes! - last week I realized my childhood dream, and finally solved 4x4x4 :)
I do not want to become a competitive-class speedcuber, so I do not set any sort of obligatory goals in my cubing. Just want to have fun: first learn basics of Fridrich method (F2L & PLL-21 are in progress, do not even think of OLL-57), after that maybe try Roux. Being a husband and a father of 2 children I haven't too much time for trainings. But if I see a sort of progress in my playing with cube, I probably will share my results in this thread.

Whoa. Welcome back. I would suggest purchasing a stickered 3x3. The 'classic' look are pretty cool.

My DaYan II v2 is with stickers, but after a month of intensive cubing not all of them look good :)
Yes, I prefer classic scheme too, but stickerless MoYu Weilong is awesome - so smooth and so silent!
Thus I use both cubes, but MoYu is my favourite at the moment.

Update in my times, after getting used to MoYu Weilong stickerless colours:
PB: 30.24 (PLL skip), 44.44 (non-lucky)
Avg5: 46.82
Avg10: 48.83

Updated single non-lucky PB to 41.57. Also tested my homemade timer (command line, ~150 lines in C++). Main feature of this timer is NOT displaying running digits while I solve the cube :)

Hello. I'm in a similar position to you. I got my first cube during the initial craze but didn't manage a full solve until I got another cube last Christmas. I'm a father of 2 also. You might well get addicted to breaking times but I recommend getting a variety of different puzzles too.
