Switching Methods Progress Thread

I am switching to Roux, so can anybody explain to me the types of Roux CN since I am CN with CFOP? I have no idea what x2/y and x/y2 means.
Those types of neutrality refer to the solving orientation. They aren't necessary for CFOP because CFOP allows cube rotations. With Roux, you should not ever do a cube rotation, and because of that, it matters what solving orientation you pick.

x2/y means that you always will start with the same two colors (white/yellow, or blue/green, or red/orange) on U/D. That's the only constraint. It could be considered the equivalent of solving dual cross for CFOP. You can have any color you want on F, B, R, and L. An example of x2/y neutrality would be always having either yellow or white on the D face and U face, and always having either red, orange, blue, or green on the F face.

x2/y2 is just like x2/y, except it also affects which colors are on F and B. Once again, F and B will always be the same two colors. And example of x2/y2 neutrality would be always having either white or yellow on the D face and U face, and always having either blue or green on the F face and B face.

x/y2 means that you will always have a color pairs on the F/B faces. An example of x/y2 color neutrality would be always solving with white or yellow on the L face and R face, and always solving with blue, green, orange, or red on the other faces.

Here is a page about cube notation, and it will explain to you what x, y and z mean. You can use the information here to understand what the different types of neutrality mean.

My personal opinion about color neutrality on Roux is that x2/y or x2/y2 are closest to speed optimal. Since you're fully color neutral for CFOP, I would recommend that you choose x2/y.

Thanks Juggle! The main thing I'm afraid of switching to Roux is when I see fast CFOP users like Kennan,Faz and Collin. I don;t know why, but I can't break sub 20 with CFOP.

You're been cubing for about 6 months, right? 23 seconds is a decent time considering that you're pretty new. If you stick with CFOP, I'm certain you can break sub 20 within a year of starting cubing.

Something you can do is split your time evenly between Roux and CFOP. Who says you have to pick a single method? Use both methods until you decide which one you like, and take as long as you need.

Switching to Roux would be a long term investment. If you're looking to get fast quickly, stick with CFOP. If you're willing to wait a long time to see the reward, you could give Roux a try. But getting fast with CFOP will be easier for you, since you're already sub 25 and color neutral.

I haven't been cubing for 6 months. I started practicing in May so around 3 months ish. Yes, I really want to get sub 20 before September, so I'll stick to CFOP. Do you have any tips for 4x4 using Yau? No matter how much I practice, I fail to get sub 2.

Even though you're banned now, I'll reply. Your expectations are too high. Nobody is fast after 3 months. If you keep practicing 4x4, you will get sub 2 in a few months. If you keep practicing 3x3, you will get sub 20 in at most 6 months. The only tips I have for Yau are to practice. That's what it takes. And don't keep switching between Yau and Hoya. Stick to one of them.
