I know what lookahead is... I am not the best at it, but I am half decent...

At 40s averages, I wouldn't have even worried about slow turning. Chances are you were already turning at a decent pace that would help with lookahead.

Lookahead is one thing, but quickly Recognizing and then Executing an F2L solution probably what's holding you back. In which case, I hate to say it but... practice... and have patience. Also, make sure your solutions for different cases are good ones. As your regonition improves, so will your times.

I normally would choose the look ahead option here which i did but it doesn't really specify how LONG the pauses are. If the pauses were really minor than I'd obviously go with the speedy turning option.

It's not slow turning or fast turning, it's looking ahead.

Looking ahead is what is important and will make you faster. So, just turn at whatever speed you can look ahead with. And then that speed will slowly increase, as you get better.

I agree with this. It's not slow turning that's good, it's slower turning. Go as fast as you can go being able to not pause; this could be near full speed. 'Slow turning' should still be fast, just not as fast.

Yeah, if you tried to spam Feliks TPS, you are going to have no look ahead and will end up messing up a lot, whereas if you do fast, but controlled turning and look ahead, you will become much faster, plus it is a good habit to get into.

You should turn as slowly as you can with no pauses. As you get better at lookahead, the speed at which you can turn with no pauses increases. "Turn fast and lookahead" is obviously ideal, and that's what you're shooting for.

Probably turning slightly faster is better. Maybe something like a speed where half the time you would have no pauses and the other half slight pauses. For me, that's faster. Furthermore, it more quickly trains your lookahead to catch up to your speed rather than your speed slowing down to your lookahead.

smooth turning is definitely beneficial to your growth as a cuber as it allows you to actually improve your lookahead while with the speed turns+pauses you're kinda just stuck there for eternity XD so yeah you can just slowly speed up while maintaining the same amount of lookahead

on a side note here is how i would rank my tps for the different stages of CFOP from quickest to slowest:

1. PLL (No lookahead at all)
2. OLL (PLL lookahead isn't too bad)
3. Cross (1st F2L pair lookahead)
4. F2L (There's 3 F2L pairs for you to lookahead for and an OLL to anticipate)

Slow turning really helps me with 5x5 edge pairing. Pauses are reduced a lot. There's a time and a place for slow turning; it's not always helpful. It's definitely worth practicing, though. I don't practice slow turning for centers, since lookahead is fairly easy for those, and the 3x3 stage is already slow enough with my regular 5x5 TPS to serve its purpose.

Also, once you have just two slots left, a lot of the time you can see ahead to the end of the last pair. Then you shouldn't purposely keep a slow TPS!!

Picked 'Learn Roux' because in Roux, you dont need high TPS to get sub 15. When building blocks, you can turn veryy slow and still get very good times (Like sub 20). Unlike CFOP, you are restricted more, causing more moves, causing you need a higher turning speed in order to get sub 20 times.
This is why I choose Roux over CFOP.
But uo get a higher move count ....
loads of M moves

Obviously slow Turing is better for F2L and is something I would suggest getting to be a habit. I wish I had made that choice because although I am somewhat fast it is because of my TPS during F2L. Regret not looking ahead because it is a bad habit.
I agree with you, this also has became a habit of mine, and is really bad. I'm currently sub 18.
