Question about block building

At the moment I know the Fridrich method and I wanted to learn a new method. A few days back I learned Petrus but stopped using it because I wasn't good at block building. I'm so use to making f2l pairs that I don't know where to start with making blocks. I always build blocks by putting in a white cross piece then putting f2l pairs in to make a 1x2x3 block. Does anyone have any tips for block building? For some reason I can't get out of this habit. (I also want to try out Roux method)

The videos you posted actually helped me. I looked at CaptianCrash44's channel and watched his advance Petrus tutorial on 2x2x2 and 2x2x3 block building and it helped, I just have to practice. I also looked at the EJF2L tutorial and that looks interesting.
