hey, ive been parcticing on my F2L by badhemisto (or something like that) and failed to get the promised 50 secs

Original average time: 65s average
learning new F2L since: 3 weeks ago
New average time: 69s

is this nomal? if not plz help me
(im currently learning 4LLL (2LOLL + 2LPLL) right now. planning for Full Fridrich by next June)

It's best to go step by step. When you first start learning CFOP it's natural for your timings to deprove as you are still getting used to the method. With practice and experience you should get better. If you are uncomfortable with some LL algs then search around for better ones.

I used badmephisto's videos too. When i first started, my F2L was VERY slow. And i used to get so irritated. After a few weeks of hard work and practice though, it got much much faster :D

my times got from 60 to 80 avg and during a week of hard practise it was 60 again but with f2l, I never learned algs for f2l... 3 weeks or so after that I gone to 45 avg...
The greatest advise always comes up here in other threads, go slow and smooth, when you know intuitive f2l for 3 weeks you should be able to do like 90% of all cases blind without any afford, so you can look for the next pieces during solving one pair, even if you just follow one edge/corner of f2l, you will know exactly the position and orientation of that piece and got the 4 top layer edges/corners + 1-4 in the f2l spots where you have to look for them, you see some of those during following the piece anyway, so you got like 2-4 mostly to look for if you didn't find the piece before.
That's how I gone for it and it worked fine, you can say which pieces are possible to be the searched piece by ignoring all with last layer colour and with the 2 colours that aren't searched for, example, white cross, yellow last layer (boy sheme) you follow the red/blue/white corner, so you can say that all pieces with green, orange and yellow are not worth looking at.
Yeah it is obvious but sometimes you just have to think about those simple things...

was in your steps 1-2 months ago, averaging 60-70 using badmephistos intuitive f2l videos. 2000+ solves later (yes I have each time logged, very easy with cubetimer.com) I'm down to about 40 sek average and a few sub 30 solves.

erm.. i dont have as much time as you have, maybe 10-15 solves a day, which adds up to 900+ solves in 2 months. looks like i cant get 40+ secs

Then you can expect it to take longer than it took me :)

Just posting my experience, you now know how much effort it took me. It really wasn't a focused effort, I'd just do times every now and then on cubetimer.com and then paste over to the google docs spreadsheet once it reached 100. Probably 20+ solves per day, more on the weekends.

First 100 solves completed on April 5th - Average: 69.6202
Last 100 solves completed on June 1st - Average: 43.1656

I can attribute most of these improvements to my F2L getting faster.

Completely normal.Me:
Beginners Method: Anywhere from 65 to 90 secs
Fridrich (4lll):50 -60 secs
Fridrich (2 look OLL, some PLL's):45 secs

Now,with that last, I can average about 45 seconds, with my PB being 34 secs (Full step :)) But, F2L being slow at first is not uncommon. Instead of always timing yourself, whenever you have a few minutes of free time, play with the cube and work on your F2L. The more you work on it, the more logic of it comes to you, and you will be able to get it faster. My F2L when I started with it took about 45 seconds, but now it only takes 25-30. Just keep practicing!

I agree, you should keep it on you if you know you'll have nothing to do. I bring mine everywhere with me. When you get the chance, pull it out and start doing f2l. Of course it'll take some time, but your times will decrease once you get used to it... Then there's looking ahead, which I've yet to get a hang of.

My times went from 55seconds average to 95 average in less than a week when I switched from LBL to petrus.
After a few days, I switched to Fridrich (lazy EO). My time went down to 80 seconds. Less than a month later, I averaged sub-40 with Fridrich.
Once you understand the concept, it's just practice.

well if you are just learning Intituive F2L of course you are going to be kind of slow, what you need to do is just work on what you are going to do for each case and once you have seem and done them all enough it will be muscle memory and you will see kind of sudden leap with much faster times really you just need to keep practicing

well for me it was cause i only actually use a timer like 2 or 3 times a week

Dont htink I have enough time to do your 2000+ solves... ive got lots of work these days:)

Take the cube with you, whenever you have free time, such as standing in line at a store, being a passenger in a car, etc. you can solve it. Every little practice adds up.

yes, you're probably right

Yes, ive seen my times go down, best now 37.05 secs (opps, forgot to change my sig) but averge still hanging at 55 secs. I practice as much as possible. Learning Full Fridrich soon, starting with PLL.
any tips for learning PLLs+OLLs?

You should learn each algorithm in parts. Like memorize 3 moves for an algorithm, doing it with your eyes closed, and finish the rest of the algorithm looking at the notation. Then memorize the next 3 moves, and so on until you finish memorizing the algorithm. If you don't already, try to use finger tricks in your algorithms, and practice it until you get used to it, so you won't forget it. Using this method, I can memorize an algorithm and not forget it in about 10 minutes. This is totally your decision, but I wouldn't recommend learning more than 3 algorithms per day, because you might forget them.

I would have advised you to practice a bit more with the beginner's method before attempting to learn F2L. I started learning it when I had a consistent average of ~45 seconds with the beginners method.

To help learn F2L, instead of always trying to speedsolve the cube, go slowly and analyse every move, and learn why F2L works, rather than repeating (admittedly short) algorithms. I only learnt the first few F2L algorithms before I worked out the rest by myself by using similar techniques.

I'd advise you to learn PLL first (fewer algorithms, and (for me) resulted in the greatest % decrease in time compared to OLL) then learn 2 step OLL.
