[WR] Daniel Sheppard 4x4 Blindfolded 3:17.41

Thanks for all your lovely messages. Really means a lot, especially because a lot of you are bld experts yourselves, and have helped and inspired me in the past :)

How do you manage to keep track of cube orientation with all those rotations?
And do you do full commutators now?
I don't find it any problem to keep track of orientation. I would have thought all cubers have enough spatial awareness just to be able to do that without thought.
I learnt BH corners for all 9+ movers since the last WR. Unfortunately I've forgotten a lot of them from lack of practise. I think this solve was a 9 mover, 2 move setup to A perm (lol), 8 mover, 8 mover.
Centres is comms as always.
Edges is still based on r2, but any pair of edges that has an l or r-slice piece I set up to an r2-based comm.

It looks so slow. o_o
Yep. Execution was 2:10 whereas my previous WR was 2:07. Because I did a more risky memo, there were more memo pauses, and this solve was much more move-efficient on the edges. So all that added together makes it look slow.

He one passes 4x4 BLD, so the only memo recalling he does is during execution.
Yes I one-pass, but not at full speed. I have a small pause after each few pieces to cement the images in my locations a bit better. For the 19/21 multi I reviewed each cube once straight after going through it, and that's it. So by the time I executed the first cube, I hadn't reviewed the images since the 2nd minute. Weird, but it works for me

Dan are you using r2 for edges still or do you use commutators now? Also congratulations!

Doh I watched it again it looks like r2.
It's based on r2, but has many extra things that basic r2 doesn't teach. I intend to make a video on advanced r2 sometime when I figure out how to video effectively on my android.

:) Thank you! I'll try it out when I get home

Slowtps :(

My execution generally was not fast on this solve. Corners I can cut at least 15 seconds off by just relearning BH rather than having to think and work out stuff so much. My centres were ok - I've never been fast at them and there's always big pauses. Edges were probably the most efficient I've ever done them because I used a lot of advanced r2 tricks. However, the tps was bad because my cube wasn't in a good state at all at the time.
Overall, I think I could cut off 25 seconds or so just by relearning BH (many hours work to be able to go from letter pair to alg without thinking) and by lubing my cube (takes a minute or so).

Gogogo sub3 next month at Rapidash :)

EDIT: Brest, my memo wasn't 59...
Also, there's 56 ETM on corners not 112 - i'm not quite that inefficient!

Wow, I walked through that solve - impressive job capturing all that, Brest!

I'm impressed by how well the slice-backslice thing works for r moves. I wonder if it's worth the trouble trying to relearn it; I always either do ring-middle double-triggers for r2 from the bottom, or else single forefinger pulls from the top done twice. On bigger cubes, always the latter, which is not very quick. In particular, I'm thinking the slice-backslice thing might be really quite helpful for 8x8x8. My problem is, I'm not sure it would be easy to switch; I'm so used to thinking in terms of that one slice moving, and it might mess up my mental "vision" to have to do the slice-backslice thing instead.

Amazing to me to see that your total number of moves is a little higher than mine (basically due to BH vs. r2 on wings), you're turning that slow, and yet you can get a time this good. Clearly my biggest problems are that I take too long to memorize and I pause too much when solving.

Awesome solve, Daniel - thanks for helping show us how good 4x4x4 BLD can really get!

Personally I think it's really silly slicing like that a lot of the time. I just do it out of habit more than anything else. I find that if I do the slice-backslice too fast and I lock up, then I usually drop the cube (SS4x4 locks up pretty bad when it does). So, that's why I turn really slow in centres. I might try using double flicks for inner r2 at least, if not u2 as well.

Not sure why you're surprised that my move count is higher than yours - you use comms for everything so nothing is really going to beat that! My inefficient edges aren't too slow because r2 can be such a braindead method, and with special tricks for l and r slice pieces there aren't any difficult cases.
As for memo, that was a really risky one - I've never done an attempt with a memo that fast before. It just worked and I count myself lucky :)

I was talking to Thom at Irish Open, and we figured that sub-1 might just about be humanly possible :p
