[Help Thread] Edge Control

306? does that include or exclude mirror cases?

I'm using my intuition to learn ZBF2L, newer even looked at a ZB page for algs (also the reason for me not knowing how many cases there are =)

Using my appoach it will take years to learn, I'm sure :p

But, I'm also sure I will not forget how to do it later as easily as i would if I learned algs I don't fully understand.

Ok so since I already know about 20 OLLs, I think I will finish all the rest of the OLLs, which will hardly take a me about 2 weeks. Then I think will learn VHF2L and COLL in course of time. That would suit me I guess.

I've been studying edge orientation in Petrus and some of the simpler ELL cases in MGLS with an eye towards better edge control. Can anyone give some pointers or tips on what to look for? I think I may be starting too late, I should probably be looking ahead towards edge orientation before I get to my last slot in F2L.

http://www.cosine-systems.com/cubestation/f2l/f2ladvanced-influencingLLvh.php – I was just searching for stuff today and found that page. It has all of the algorithms to flip all 4 edges are you insert the fourth F2L pair, and has some suggestions on flipping some edges with the 3rd pair to avoid the length no-edges-flipped ones.

Does anyone know whether it's faster to use VHF2L and the cross OLL's than it is to do a 2-look OLL, in general? I'm sure there are specific cases where one or the other is faster.

i usually just look how my insertions in f2l modify the edge orientations and use different variations based on that. For example if i see that many of my edges are already oriented, I will try hard to finish F2L only using R and U, because using only two sides can never un-orient edges

Use intuition, it may be a little tricky at start but you will soon get the grip.

Best thing if you do not learn algs for the 16 cases that you repeat each time and newer reflect on the functionallity is that you will start to add ZB-F2L cases to your set of algs.

To me VH and ZB is pretty much the same, it starts as a VH case but in time you will know when the pair is good = VH is the same case as ZB (the pairing will orient the edges, or preserve them if they are already orinted) and when it's bad. And after that you will start to learn what to do to fix that bad pair = pure ZB (or the bad pairs really, it's more than one for each situation).

If an OLL skip occurs when someone uses some form of LL edge control, does that qualify as a lucky solve? I'm leaning towards a no because if someone did, say, VHF2L, COLL, and then edge permutation, it wouldn't be a step skip.
MAybe (probably) this is a stupid question but its been bothering me for a while.

If you use corner control, yes. Otherwise, it's not. Because you're not working towards it.

This has been discussed in depth on the discussion for Doudou's 9.90 solve.

just wanted to inform people that dont know edge control. whats so off topic about that. its still related to edge control. you writing that is more irrelevant.

when you have all the other cubies of the last layer oriented correctly, ll edge control allows you to skip OLL. (instead of doing U R U' R' U' F' U F you do another alg)
EDIT: why do i always type pll instead of oll? happened 3 times already !
