I average about 27 seconds, and I'm wondering which of these two methods is worth learning, and might help out later on. :D

I think you should try petrusF2L, ZBF2L and ZZF2l.

for pertrus and ZZ F2L there are no algs you need to memo. for ZBF2L you should get a "feeling". then choose what you like ...

also try Roux, just try everything!!

sticking to your normal method is also no shame:p

ZBF2L is a LOT of cases, do not even think about it before you have tried out VHF2L. From there you can continue and add upp cases if you like the style.

If you only know 2 look OLL = many cases to learn if you like it to become 1 look and if you are thinking of Petrus, then rather learn COLL than the rest of the OLL's.

I suggest this as a wery potentional speedcubing method:

1; 2x2x2
2; 2x2x3
3; Fix bad edges (M' U M style)
4; End F2L but ignore the last FL edge (2-gen)
5; COLL (42 cases)
6; Permute last 5 edges (16 cases)

1-3 is exactly as Petrus, the rest is a more advanced approach than the original method.

become a two looker with fridrich first...
then practice EOLine. (3 gen f2l with OLL Cross skip :D)
practice multislotting, and learn VHF2L and COLL (i love COLL).

if you are going for speed and speed alone, ignore Petrus for now.
if you are going for knowledge, do learn and practice Petrus. it very much helps with FMC too :)

as a rule, i dont recommend ZB (unless you are ridiculously committed, and have more spare time than anyone you've ever met).
