Here’s something I want to try out: solving with Petrus without doing the EO step as a separate step. I’m not sure if it’s possible or if it saves moves or not.

Several ideas for after making a 2x2x3:

1. Try to orient some edges while making the 2x2x1. Use the shorter ZBF2L algs to finish F2L.
2. Pure Petrus.
3. Insert edge, Pure ZB.
4. Use multislot tricks to form 2x2x1 block while connecting last F2L pair so that VHF2L finish is possible.
5. Try to orient some edges while making the 2x2x1. MGLS.
6. Orient edges, MGLS.
7. Other suggestions?

Which idea would be the fewest moves?
Which idea would be the best balance for speed?

Or do Petrus F2l with 2GLL?

well to use 2GLL you would have to do Petrus up to step 5 to get the corners permuted. That also ignores most of what he is talking about since the focus seems to be in getting the edges oriented.
Obviously for Fewest Moves starting with Petrus then doing full ZB is a very small amount of moves. And if you can memorize and do all the ZB algs at full speed then that would be faster too.
And depending on what you want to do for the LL depends on what you want to do for the F2L... If you want to do COLL/2GLL and keep learning more until you get to ZBLL then you want do either just do the orientation step or try and orient some edges with the 2x2x1 block and some other edges with the final pair.
If you dont want quite that many algs you could do MGLS to PLL.
But thats just my opinion I dont have any actual numbers on how many moves all of this is. But we do know how many algs it takes for this stuff.and VHF2L/MGLS/2GLL/COLL are generally what people would call a reasonable number of algs while ZB whether F2L or LL is just an insane amount, tho doable with a lot of practice and determination.

Thanks, Lofty.

By the way, I'm only concerned with F2L and orient LL edges at this point.
I'll decide LL later. OLL + PLL should be sufficient until I get sub-15.

actually I do petrus without EO...
How exactly do you solve? If you just start with a 2x2x3 block but then do something completely different from Petrus, I wouldn't call it Petrus.

I agree, that would be like Fridrich with double xcross start.
I want to find a way to combine steps 3 and 4. The idea of orienting without placing annoys me.

Now that a thread of ZZ came up, I'm considering to use the EOline. For Petrus, I think After the 2x2x3 block, solving another CE pair would really help me. I prefer to do it in the FR-FRD position. But it could be of any color. The CE pair doesn't even have to be solved as long as that edge is oriented. If you do the right way of orienting the rest of the edges, that pair never gets broken up.
