[Unofficial] Yuxuan Wang - 0.686 magic average of 5

Your argument reads like this.

Sport Stacking competitions should be banned period, but it's not only because it has the word Sport on it.

No, it reads like this: "Rubik's magic is not a puzzle". Or at least this is what I meant. Sorry, English is not my main language, maybe "ban" sounds a little stronger than what I meant, that is, IMO magic event is somewhat "unuseful" in a PUZZLE competition.

I don't have any video analysis software, but based on the position of his hands it seems that perhaps the corner of the magic hit the middle of the timer slightly off center?

Perhaps you are right, this does seem to be the most logical explanation.
I went through frame by frame, and it does appear to be legit. When the timer moves (which happens on all solves except the last one), there is motion blur on the timer, which would indicate that it is actually being moved during the solve. If he were splicing together 2 shots, then it shouldnt have any motion blur.

Looks like hes just really awesome at magic.

Yeah, some part of the magic hit the timer back towards him as he was solving (that is, this is not any sign of trickery). It happens on other solves too. I assume this is why he repositions the timer before each solve.

I disagree that magic should be disallowed. Perhaps scrambled into a non-flat shape and unscrambled back to linked rings, but not disallowed.

Also, speedcubing is not really puzzling either. To me, puzzling is taking a puzzle you have not solved before and working to discover a solution. Speedcubing is more on the spectrum of rote memorization and muscle memory, similar to magic actually. It just so happens that magic always has the same solution, whereas speedcubing can have many possible solutions.

Dropping magic as an even because it "is not a puzzle" would mean, to me, that we should also drop 3x3x3 speedsolve because it is not "puzzling."

Nah, I think if we choose not to drop magic we should just start having like similar type competitions for like, H perm, lol. Or PLL time attack haha. Or (R U)*63

What makes the Magic not a puzzle? Give it to someone who has never seen it, they wouldn't be able to find the solution.. i.e, a puzzle. What makes a puzzle a puzzle is not that it has several ''starting'' points (scrambled).

What do you call those puzzles that you connect the 100, 500 or 1000 pieces to create the matching picture on the box? I believe that's a ''puzzle'', even if it's essentially the exact same thing every time.

@cisco first solve the magic sub one then come here and judge!
Magic is a great puzzle and it makes you calm before the 2x2x2 3x3x3 and other puzzles start in the competition :)

He must be able to pick up cubes from the table faster than anyone else. That's a pretty useful skill for solving.

Impossible. Look at the first solve, the timer move twice

I wonder if his fingers are touching the magic after stopping the timer on the 5th solve?
I haven't watched this video, but I've watched a lot of Yuxuan's solves in person, both in and out of competition. His style is better than any other reasonably fast competitor I've seen. I've judged a lot of solves that I could reasonably give a +2, but not his. He just really is fast.
I asked him specifically about this once, and he said "yeah, I could probably go faster if I did it like that, but that's not how I practice."
