I've loosened the tensions on mine, so occasionally, an internal piece will somehow find a way to force itself between the centers and edges and fly out.

Someone please tell me how 4x4s work.

Ya, any loosening the the GuanSu pops. I loosened mine a little bit and I had three pops in the first solve. It feels nice in the hands but Because of this I cannot recommend the cube.

The internal pieces basically makes the 4x4 act like a 5x5. The internal pieces fill in where the 5x5 pieces are. Think of a 2x2 is basically just a 3x3 with the corners stretching over the other edges which are not internal.

I haven't touched the tensions on mine. My only complaint is the mediocre corner cutting. I could see trying to improve the cc with looser tensions, but I don't think it would help much. After hearing about all the popping with looser tensions, I feel more strongly that it's not worth the trouble. Just leave it tight and turn accurately.

Thoughts on the puzzle: Out of the box it is quite nice. It feels a bit airy and light to turn in the outer layers. Inner layers are a bit slower but nice as well. Corner cutting is mediocre. I had to loosen it up by 1/4 of a turn on each side. I didn't want to risk loosening it mmore because I fear it will start to have internal pops. With this tension adjustment if became a bit better but corner cutting is still mediocre and as the cube is quite stiff lockups are worse than, e.g. my Aosu, which flexes a bit more.

Overall it's not a bad cube for the price but it's not what I was hoping after all the praise it received. For me it's not good enough so I'm looking into other options like the CB G4 or else I'll just stick to my Aosu.

I have this cube and it is fast and all, but I constantly get inner pops and there annoying to put back

Thoughts on the puzzle:
Great out of the box though not much improvement from when I first got it.
Tensions didn't need changing, came pre-lubed (A bit)
Outer layers are amazing, inner layers are slow, but not a massive problem.
Corner cutting is mediocre, although could be improved with loosening tensions.
Minor catches.

You can't keep the Guansu loose or it will pop. Try tightening it until pops stop. I haven't noticed a huge performance difference between them and as long as you tension it right it won't pop and will still feel smooth and fast.

Yep, even though I loosened it 1/4 turn I haven't had a single pop, and I'm still using it as main while my CB G4 arrives. But my opinion has not changed and corner cutting is mediocre, at best. I assume with very accurate turning it can be a very good cube.

Maybe I just got a bad Guansu or maybe I just set it up wrong, but my Guansu is kinda blah. Honestly I can't really compare it to much else cuz I am just getting into 4x4 (average 3 mins.) but about once every five solves or so I will have one of those smaller white pieces of the core pop out. I don't know the actual name for them, but they are just the pieces that help brace some of the bigger core pieces in. The turning is fine, but again I can't say how much faster or slower it is to other cubes.
