No matter who your audience, never assume they know anything.
If you are presenting to a room full of well-established and respected academics then you know that they understand the basics.

Nice retort. I'll try that the next time I present a scientific paper to a room of well-established and respected academics.
I've presented research to respected academics multiple times, and every single time I give a concise yet thorough overview of the information relevant towards understanding the importance and relevance of the research. In fact, I believe it is the single most important aspect of a scientific presentation. Without an understanding of why any research is important and applicable, it's just details of no real consequence. Any argument that it is not important to give even a modicum of background information is ridiculous.
god yeah, having cold hands and solving makes my times triple, warm hands makes it so much easier to get a good average![]()
I was merely addressing applemobile's misinformed statement that you should treat every audience you present to as if they don't know the basics.
i actually set my PB 11.8 solve (non-lucky) on my first solve of the day with cold hands. my look ahead was just super good for the solve.
The key word is Assume. If you know your audience, then it is not an assumption it is a fact.
As an examiner reading that, I would have no idea what you are even talking about. You imply an awful lot of knowledge onto the reader. What is a Rubik's cube? What is solving it? Surely it depends who 'jumbled it up?' Dafuq is a finger trick?
You could have written the best thesis in the world, but without these core basics, the reader will just see 'blah blah blah'
Any argument that it is not important to give even a modicum of background information is ridiculous.
Tldr. I'm right you're wrong. No matter who your audience, never assume they know anything
