I was thinking today, what if Feliks didn't cube? How would the world records look? One could argue it's impossible to assume anything because Feliks also had a tremendous impact on other cubers who have gotten better by learning from Feliks and using him as motivation. However, let's assume every record was identical and we just removed all of Feliks' solves. Here's how the Rubik's Cube WR single history would look:

Rowe Hessler would have been the first person to break Erik's 7.08 with a 6.94 at MIT Fall 2010 (11/13/2010)

Rowe's record stands for 281 days until Che-Ting Chu of Taiwan breaks it with a 6.89 at Taiwan Summer 2011 (8/21/2011)

Che-Ting's record would be short lived, lasting only 6 days, when Nipat Charoenpholphant of Thailand breaks it with a 6.78 at Hua Hin Open 2011 (8/27/2011)

Nipat's record lasts 64 days when it is broken by Mats Valk of the Netherlands with a 6.41 at the Dutch Open 2011 (10/30/2011)

Mats' record lasts 77 days when it is broken by Asia Konvittayayotin of Thailand with a 6.15 at the Bangkok 2012 (1/15/2012)

Asia's record lasts for 99 days when it is broken by Michal Pleskowicz of Poland with a 6.11 at the Cubing Spring Grudziadz 2012 (4/21/2012)

Michal's record lasts 106 days when Yumu Tabuchi of Japan breaks it with a 6.09 at US Nationals 2012 (8/5/2012)

And finally Yumi's record lasts 210 days when it Mats takes back his WR with a 5.55 at the Zonhoven Open 2013 (3/3/2013).

I thought this was pretty interesting. If anyone wants to do this with another record, feel free. I might do another one later, but I'm not sure. Also, I may have made mistakes. I just used Excel to organize things and I could have hastily messed up, so let me know if you spot anything and I'll edit it.

Cool thread, I hadn't even heard of Che-Ting Chu... unless he was the guy who got the LL skip?

I think the average WR would be more interesting, considering Feliks is the only person who's had the 3x3 average world record in over 4 and a half years.

I can't think of a non-really slow way of doing what you did though... did you check every sub 7.08 single's solver's profile to check if they beat it multiple times in 2011, etc? It seems realllllly slow like 15 minutes for this.

I took all the solves that were done 7.08 and under off the WCA page. I put them in excel with names, times, and events. I sorted by name first, so I could delete all of Feliks (of the 145 sub-7.08 singles, Feliks has 47 of them... that's nuts). I took out Feliks, then resorted by speed. The events show the year, but not dates, so I just deleted anything that was in a year after solves faster than that one (like any solve done after 2010 that was slower than Rowe's 6.94). After I got all the years done, I had to manually look at the dates of each event to filter out the ones that occurred in the same year, but after (if that makes any sense). I added the dates, and wrote it up. It probably took about 20 minutes.

Whose average did Feliks break the first time?

You can use this to easily check any event.

Yes, that's what I used, but I still have to click the event to see when the date was. The title of the event gives clues sometimes about the season, but other than that, it's hard to tell anything more than the year just by the title of the event.

I was just talking about the record average that Feliks broke. I don't really see how else it could be useful.

Edit: Also, this gives dates, still not sure how it would be helpful, though.

Lol, that is actually perfect. Oh god.... there's over 1000 averages ahead of the 10.07 that Feliks broke. There's no page 2 option, so I'm not sure how I could figure it out.

That's much cleaner than how I did it. Very nice!!!!

Feliks is awesome, but he sure made cubing records boring :p Just him breaking his own records and occasionally trading off with other people.
