I'll make this short. I'm debating whether or not to do 4x4 at Nationals. I'm crap at it. I haven't really found my average, but it's definitely above 2:30 (the cutoff). Should I even bother?

I think you should do it. If you completely hate it then you will know never to compete in the 4x4 at nationals.

At the 4x4 I'm just about as slow as you or worse because I don't practice very often at all, so if I was there you wouldn't come in last place.

Yeah, but:
A. This is AT nationals that I'm talking about.
B. They stop you after a solve or two if you're not below 2:30...they stop you mid-solve if you go above 4:00.

Unless you dislike spending the time to solve it, or actually dislike solving it, I see no reason not to solve, even if you don't complete a full average.

Give five good reasons to yourself not to compete, and then consider that if you don't compete, on the WCA database you just will have a blank spot there. (Not really a blank spot, but it's always nice to have more results) I bet you those five reasons will be stupid. So just do it.
