My 4x4 looks like F1Z2L3's. So yes then, my 4x4 is the retooled version.
Oh, ok then, sorry.

I think the retooled version refers to the version with edge pieces locking with the center pieces:

Mefferts.com sell tiled 4x4's for $16 including shipping. It has the same mech, and almost identical in every way to a Rubik's, except it's actually good. Or you could get a normal sized QJ (cloned on the Rubik's model) or mini qj, which is just a mini version. Why do you need it? Mefferts and QJ are basically clones.
Yeah, I was consider buying a mini QJ or a Mefferts, but I heard that the Old Rubik's 4x4 were the best, and I wanted try it out.

Where'd you hear that? It's definitely not the best. It's one of the worst. Yes, it is better than the re-tooled version, but it's no where near as good as mefferts, qj or mini qj.
If this is for general speedsolving, I've tried all three above, and I average the fastest with a mini qj. I've also tried the re-tooled 4x4, and it's horrible.
The WR was set with a mini QJ. Need any more convincing?

I would like to try that re-retooled version, I wonder how long it will be before it is put into production, and how good it will be.
