I have heard that Yu Nakijama doesn't use a diy. I ask, should I buy a white diy from cube4you or REALLY break in my store brought rubik's brand? I have heard that after thay have REALLY broken in, they are better than DIYs could ever get, take corners just as well and never pop. should I carry on using my 4 month old rubik's brand or get a white diy?

DIY are much better at cutting corners...much better. Rubiks 25th are nice cubes once they are broken in but it takes a really long time to break in and they still will not cut corners; however they never pop which is a plus.

If I was you, I would buy a Diy and have both -- one cube isn't enough anyway so. The Rubiks feel more sturdy and nice but you really need to wear them in and you can use the Diy while the Rubik is getting that "used feel".

Yea, store-bought cubes can also pop. My store-bought cube pop 3 times until now and it is almost three months old.

Store Bought
I've only got three store bought cubes:
- 25th Anniversary
- 2005 *favorite*
- Icon *IMO, the best (I'm contemplating changing the stickers to use it)*

None of them have ever popped. I've sanded them, filed them down, and sprayed them with CRC 808.

DIY
I've 2-3 of each of the following:
- White Chinese (a) OLD
- Black Chinese (a) OLD
- Rubik's DIY

I did manage to get the tension right on a Black Chinese (a) OLD cube so that it turns smoothly and doesn't pop but I can't cut corners with it.

My store bought cubes cut corners better than any of the DIYs I have when they both offer the same amount of security, regarding popping.

Admittedly, a DIY can cut corners more easily if the tension is looser but then you have to adjust your method of solving so that you're not so violent with your fingers to keep it from popping :-/

Which?
Store Bought:
- Turns Smoothly
- Rarely Pops
- Cuts Corners after working in

DIY (loose):
- Turns really smoothly
- Easily Pops
- Cuts Corners

DIY (tight):
- Turns smoothly
- Rarely Pops
- Not good at Cutting Corners

But you should try each out for yourself and figure out which one you prefer. Each to their own :-)

Tim.

What is the exact packaging of that Rubik 2005 cube?
Which if these is Rubik 2005 - link?

I like my new type DIY - amazingly loose, yet it never pops. After I lubed it, I had to tighten it to keep from loosing control it was so loose.
