Which method am I using?

You can eliminate Erik from that list. He can do corners first in about 18 seconds, but he would never teach someone that method and even if he would, the people he teaches are not people that will hide his name.

And I think you can eliminate Jean, Edouard en Thibaut for the same reasons.

Actually I agree with everyone who thinks that he wasn't really taught by any of those guys.

I think this is the guimond method (even the explaination was not very clear).

As I know guimmond, he trully can have said that he have a reccord. He come to post on our forum (francocube.com) and seems realy disturbed. I seems to hate WCA and isn't tender with gilles roux. He never validate any reccord with a WCA delegate.

It match with the method and the person.

PS: his website came recently down, and it explain why he can't find the last step of the method on the internet.

EDIT: Ron van Bruchem is a reccordman too ;)

Guimond is a well known advanced method for 2x2x2, but he is also a well known cheater (blindfolded without inspection behind the back in < 40 seconds). Pretty much the entire cubing community (including the WCA) ignores him and his response is to send weird video's (alienstranger or something like that is his nickname).

I am not aware of a Guimond system for 3x3x3, but if it exists it will very likely be based on his 2x2x2 method and thus be a corners first method. However, the described system for doing 4 white corners followed by 4 yellow corners doesn't resemble Guimond for 2x2x2 at all so I don't think this method would have been Guimond-for-3x3x3

I have the book Jeff Conquers the CUBE in 45 Seconds (by Jeffrey Varasano, 1981), and the method is somewhat consistent with what h0miegjiggaman describes. The book describes both a beginner's version and an advanced version for most of the steps. The beginner's version of step 3 makes use of the same alg, (R2 F2 U) repeated five times, that h0miegjiggaman described. h0miegjiggaman's description of step 2 is clearly incomplete, but is clearly not the same as how the above book describes describes how to do the same step (either its beginner or advanced version).

I note that the first three steps are also basically the same steps as the Ortega method (ignoring the specifics of how the steps are completed). The Ortega and Varasano methods differ a little bit in how the edges are solved.

By the way, the Guimond method is actually a 3x3x3 CF method. Most people that use it probably only learn the corners part, for 2x2x2 solving. But the method h0miegjiggaman attempted to describe is clearly not the Guimond method (although Guimond also has a permute corners of both layers step to finish solving the corners).

He original guimond method was for the 3x3x3. Then this method was adapted for 2x2x2. It's a corner frst method and it could match with the not clear explaination given.

It could be ortega too, but he's not a reccordman and guimmond is more the kind of person who can say that they are reccordman and they are not.

You should ask to gaël at Nantes open, he use guimond to solve the 333. The method was explained in french on his website (with he pretty faked blindflod viseo which need special attention according to him :P). The website is now down but I'll try to post the method here using way back machine.

From the original post:
1.I start off with a mixed up cube and make an X on the top side(white ussually), the 4 corners and the middle piece.
Right there is enough information to know that he is not describing the Guimond method. The Guimond method starts out forming a (typically) two-colored "X" except with one of the corners twisted, so it's not a complete "X." This method is clearly *not* doing that, so no way is it describing the Guimond method.

In response to rubiksfriend, who wrote:
Did somebody mention Waterman?
The method being described solves corners, then edges. While people have categorized Waterman as a "corners first" method, it starts solving edges before all the corners have been solved. So it's not the Waterman method either. For a (so-called) corners first method, Waterman may well be worth looking at, though.

Heh.. if his friend turned out to be Gaetan Guimond then "I'm not telling you his name" would make a lot of sense.

Man, that guy makes weird videos. What is up with that cowboy movie that's in every single one?
