hey guys..

i realised there're two kinds of average when using CCT..one is session average..another is RA of 12 (i'm talking about average of 12's only). both the figures are always slightly different

when i calculate my averages manually using a calculator..i get the session average amount. but when i submit my sunday contest..it uses the RA of 12.

im confused. which is the real average?

from what i think, the session average is just an average of all the solves. while the ra of 12 cancels out the best and worse times, which can cause it to be better or worse. i hope this answers your question

RA = rolling average
rolling average = average excluding best and worst

Rolling averages just takes out the outliers.

thats not what rolling average means...

average of 12 implies that you take out the best and worst, it doesnt have to be rolling.

a rolling average is just the average of the last 12 solves you did.

a non-rolling average would be if you just sat down and did 12 solves without anything before it. but if you did 13 solves, solves 2-13 would be a rolling average.

I think you should check the source code before you make claims as to what CCT is doing.
Uh...what?

RA of 12, Current Average: The average of the last 12 solves you have done, taking out the best and worst times.

RA of 12, Best RA: The best RA of 12 that you have gotten in the session.

RA of 5 is the same thing but only with 5 solves.

Yeah, I misread what he wrote. That's accurate, my bad.

We need a different word than "average" to mean discarding the best and worst times. In the WCA rules they use average to mean that and "mean" to mean the real average. I think it'd be more clear to say "average 3 of 5" and "average of 3".

PatrickJameson NOT being a noob? This is unique. ;)

so when u guys get a pb for average, which average do you use? the one without the best and worst times or just the average of all 12?

WCA doesnt exclude the best and worst times right?

Use the best RA of 12.

As for the WCA:

9f8) In 'Average of 5' rounds competitors get 5 attempts. Of these 5 attempts, the best and worst attempt are removed, with the mean of the remaining 3 attempts counting.
