Where is fairness?

imo yiheng has to learn and he has too much talent to js ban him so why not a temporary suspension like for a year or so

Yiheng should be banned at this point
Sorry for replying to a month old post but....

I do not think he should be permanently banned as of right now, but I do think something worse then a simple DNF or +2 should happen, as it is a common thing to hear of yiheng and sliding in 2026.

Temporary ban (less then a year), is the best option to at least make him try more to correct this. I do not think that he should ever be permamently banned, however there may come a point where it has just happened 1 too many times.

note : Idk, this situation may have changed now so lemme know if this isnt the case anymore

Sorry if this has already been raised before, but won't it be simpler if a mat can be designed to sense when a cube is lifted off it? And to sense when the cube makes contact again? While there may be still be a delay, it seems to me sensing the cube should still be more accurate and also more fair than sensing someone's hands or wrists.

If you look back to the video of Minh Thai's record, the timers used in the 1982 championships used a mechanism like this.

Because it struggles to account for events like one handed, where pushing the cube against the table is often used to assist turning or rotating the cube, and events like megaminx or skewb where beginner solvers tend to leave the cube on the table and turn it with both hands.

I see. I think it probably does not matter much in competitions like OH and other puzzles, if a few milliseconds can be stolen. This imaginary mat is only needed for 3x3 and 2x2, and only for top cubers.

I am not sure if it's worth making such a mat, but it's interesting to look into this and other designs by smarter people, to eliminate cheating forever.

On second thought, maybe the mat can be made larger, large enough to cover the area normally taken by the timer, and also to cover more space on the sides. but to have no sensors in this expanded area, so that OH and other puzzle solvers can make use of the area to turn the cube or just to rest their puzzles.

The problem with the pressure sensitive mat is that I can touch the cube and turn it even before I lift off the cube or after I place it back on it, causing a similar effect of late start / early stop / sliding.
Oops. Véry good point. More detailed design work needed I suppose, maybe using also a motion sensor or light sensor to detect cube turning while it's in contact with the mat, or ... Where are the engineers?

Maybe they could put yiheng under "surveillance". Yiheng doesn't record his solves, maybe cuz he don't wants people to analyze his solves and find out about the sliding/early stops/etc. The wca could obligate him to put a camera on the table and when he finishes his solve or his ao5, they check wheter it's ok or not.

did they ever do that with other ppl?

Glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed Yiheng and another Chinese cubers don’t do that

what if the competitor doesn’t give consent for the WCA to record him/her? Not everyone is comfortable with being recorded. It could mess with the competitor’s performance as well

note: I’m talking about top chinese cubers in general
