Where Can We See You!

LOL, I knew that's what you meant!

BTW, I don't surf! I enjoy casually body surfing when I hit the beach, but I'm no pro at that either. It's enough that McDonald's commercials are stereotyping us- now cubers are doing the same! Meanies... :(

Haha, yeah, so tell your mom that you have placed 3rd in the world with the PJK Open, so you can go to US Open :) I actually don't "own" this forum, I am just the one who helps run it. Joel Van Noort and I created it, it belongs to the community ;)

I know I'll be attending the two Rutgers competitions this year (the one next month and the one in the fall), but beyond that I can't say. I may be able to go to competitions in the New York/Pennsylvannia/New Jersey area, but nothing's definite.

I'm looking forward to my first competition :)
I also plan on attending the rutgers comps. Are you from jersy?

That is one of the advantages of "being old". I don't have to ask my parents. Another one is that I have a good job that allows me to travel all over the world if I want to. (France, Belgium and UK last year. Many others this year)

Heck yes :) Only problem with Jersey is that it's overpopulated, over-developed, and the taxes are too high :(

Anyway, it would be great to meet up with those going to Rutgers Spring. By the way, from Bob Burton's webpage:

"I am looking forward to hosting my next (and probably last) Rutgers tournament this upcoming spring, probably in March!"

:( We need more comps in the NY-NJ-PA-DE area. My parental units probably aren't going to pay money to send me across the country or on five+ hour drives until I'm awesome.

<_< If that ever works in a million years...

For my mom, she wants to see me on the WCA webpage, not on the Joel/PJk Open. lol But I promise I will be top something , whether it be top 100 US OH cubers or top 100 speedsolvers, I'm going to be there! That's why it says "Will cube for fame." in my sig. lol

Thanks man. I hope it becomes a reality though. I've been practicing whenever I get a chance(even during homework time!) so I hope all that practice doesn't just get me a 30 sec average- but a 20 second one. :D

Too bad nobody here seems to live in California. Shotaro Makisumi said on his page that all great cubers live within x miles of Caltech(I live in San Diego so I'm a bi tclose to it, only an hour away or so). But none of you guys live here!

all great cubers live within x miles of Caltech

That's a funny remark, but that is only true if you look at this from a point far away in the universe. Then everyone on Earth lives near Caltech :) At this moment, Europe seems to rule the cubing scene and Asia is coming up strong.

And for top 100:
Single Solve: 100 David Calvo Vivas 15.59 Spain Spain 2006
Average: 100 Maarten Stoelhorst 18.64 Netherlands Netherlands 2006 23.56 20.35 15.82 18.41 17.15
So you will definately need to become sub 20 to get into the top 100!

No, you would look stupid if you solved one in 5 minutes- some guy actually went to a comp and did this. I don't know if he was a kid or not though, but if he was a grown up he should have practiced more.

But I would suggest getting t the mid 30s at least. After 30 seconds I started to get bored of watching peoplespeedcube, so mid 30s should be good.

And it is kind of true that many great cubers live near Caltech. Tyson Mao, Leylan Lo, Shotaro Makisumi, etc.

Yeah, such as Eduoard Chambon.

I am conscience when I cube in public so if I don't hit a certain time I would like, I realte it as if I were another person watching myself. I wouldn't want to stand there and watch myself fo r five minutes. So as long as you are in the minute area, you are good.

3x3x3 Best-25.56 sec
3x3x3 Average-33.06 sec

Grrr...you're about 3-4 seconds ahead of me in both. :P

Anyway, I'm debating about which events I'll enter at Rutgers. I could attempt OH, BLD (and fail miserably :( ), and/or 4x4 (I refuse to practice 5x5 until I replace the broken center corners). I'm awful at BLD, so that's probably out of the picture. I'm pretty bad at OH, too. That leaves me with the 4x4, which I just started cubing last night (the competition is in 12 days, so I don't have much time) and for which my times are at the moment around 4:x-5:x minutes. I plan to practice 4x4 quite a bit up until the competition, so with luck my average won't be too bad.

Anyway, I'm not sure which events to enter (and what to practice) besides standard 3x3. Advice?

So when is the next dutch competition? I would love to go there, just to see some speed cubing in real life. Cause looking at myself solving a cube in fast forward isn`t enough :).

And AvGalen, where is the best place to get a good speedcube in holland? I don`t like rubiks.com because it is 20 dollar shipping alone, and it takes 30-50 business days (in that time I could ride on my bike to the shop and get back, FROM HOLLAND..).
Anyway...

The first real competition will be in October I think. But I'm sure before that there will be a meeting, maybe you can come there?
P.S. where do you live exactly?
Den Dungen, close to Den Bosch.
