When there is no more World Records

Do you think there will be a time where World Records stop?

I think it will happen with the rise of machines and technology doesn't have much ways to improve, maybe 200 years? Or when people forget cubing, 600-1000 years?

In the next 10 years, I can see FMC turn into a different event. Move count will still be the deciding factor in who is better at FMC, but similar to MBLD, people will start recording how fast they can get a good move count.

a 15 might be possible for fmc
possibly, but it will take a while. I think FMC still has some time before no WRs come out. to get a WR, you can tie the 16, if someone gets a 15, which I think could be possible, it might take a very long time to tie it. The 16 move WR has lasted for almost 4 years (turning 4 in about a week) and we have not had a 17 mover since 2021. If someone were to get a 15, it might be the last FMC single WR.

Alternatively, it could be switched to STM, which would open the doors to more techniques and enable lower move-counts again for a while.

I’m pretty sure 6x6 and 7x7 only have a minimum of 2 moves. In the nearly impossible case that such a scramble is generated, I think that would be the end of WR singles for those events.
Not only those, most events have that rule, only 2x2 (4 moves), pyra and skewb (6 moves) and squan (11 moves) are exceptions iirc.
But say the universe is 13.8 billion years old and every second a 3x3 scramble has been generated so far, there is only an 18.1% chance that a 2 mover would have occurred already.
Edit: oops that is the probability that a 1 mover would have already occurred, but you get the point

In 2x2 I once had a 0 move scramble

I blindly scrambled for around a minute and when wanted to start inspection and looked at the cube, it was solved 😆
But I guess that only shows how bad handscrambles are 😉

But back to the topic. I think the world records won't ever stop, but the intervals can get longer. At some point hardware can't be improved much and maybe there is no new talent that breaks all records.
But if cubing doesn't lose all his poularity and gets forgotten new talents will come.

It's a very theoretical question that naturally leads to a lot of subjectivity.
If we go back 200 years, there are only a few hobbies that are widespread today, a big percentage of which has changed drastically or at least minimally. Asking a well-versed person of that time how, say, wool weaving or chess will look like in 2020, they would have had no idea, since they only have their current state to go on with an endless amount of possibilities, each being possible.

And that's how cubing works as well. In 10, 50, 4, 40, 100 years, cubing could be
More wide-spread
Basically dead with only a small very dedicated community worldwide
Something every kid learns at one point
Through a major breakthrough at ANY point that leads to world records being broken frequently again for some time

And you could surely add so many possibilities, because I didn't even factor in that the WCA could change rules at any point, or the augumented reality/body thematic or things we don't even know about.

In absolute terms, yes, there will be a point where 3x3 single will be lowered for the last time. As with my shenanigans above, this could be the result of cubing dying down, humanity dying down or something else entirely.

We collectively once thought that MBLD and 2x2 single will never be broken. When new MBLDers came in 2018 making staggering progress, that thought of course changed, but the new 2x2 single also happened basically as a surprise.

You probably just did the same thing over and over again meaning it would eventually return to solved
