What sandpaper should I use?

In order to sand my cube, what type of sandpaper (like.. P40, P2500 :p) should I use? Also.. Sanding would create stipes on the cube. Would this prevent it from moving fast? Should I sand away these stripes with fine sandpaper (about P120)?

Thanks ;)

Wouldn't sanding the pieces cause less friction since there would be less surface area rubbing together? I havent sanded any of my cubes but I assumed this would be the case.

I use a metal file (triangular prism shape) so I can get into tough spots and flatten off interior faces. Using a sharp knife can be dangerous. I do not know if surfaces that get roughed up by sanding will have worse or better friction than smooth surfaces.

Will using something that's good but scratches it up, and then smoothing out with low-grit sandpaper work though?

i used sand paper to make the cubies on my storebrought smaller and i left the plastic course, the cube has never moved so badly! i am going to use my scalpel on future mods...

Did you sand it with smoother sandpaper afterwards? What grit did you use?

If your doing any significant modding like I've done on a 3x3 (4-5 hours), Then use a file. It takes forever to remove plastic with sandpaper. I go over it with a fine sandpaper afterwards. I belive 400 grit followed by superfine, prob like 600. Sometimes I use an exactoknife as well, or a razor.
