Feel free to describe your experience as a competitor and when everything went south.

Let me go first -
My failure came in 2019 when I was attending my first world championships. I had come 4th in 4BLD which was a good result for me, missing the podium by ~10 seconds
:frowning:

My heartbreak came in the MBLD event: I wanted to do well in MBLD as well. I had planned to do 25 cubes on Day 1. During the memorization phase (sitting beside Jack Cai who was doing the ~same number of cubes), I felt a bit lost and the memo did not stick. I ended up DNFing the attempt. Fortunately there was no cut-off for MBLD (unlike the 2023 WC cut-off of 15 points). In the second attempt on day 2, I woke up late and ran to the venue, but I had forgotten my MBLD bag and my ID card. I ran back to the hotel and as a result was 30 minutes late to the attempt. I was not allowed to compete and my result was DNS. It was sad that I could not compete on the biggest stage in the world and get a valid MBLD score.

I have triple DNFed in bigBLD events multiple times till now, each time I have learnt to be more cautious and plan my attempts better. I hope to do well in my next major championships

My biggest fail at comp was at my 4rth comp. For the few months before this I had grinded 3x3 in hopes for a low 15 if not sub 15 average. But sadly the nerves got to me and this happened:

My PR 2x2 average.

My worst solve at this point was a mid 5, then I got a +2 on a 3.4. If I didn’t get that +2, my average would’ve been a 2.96, and not a 3.63. I probably would’ve also gotten 4th place instead of 7th.

im just a lil salty.

This was in round 2 in 3x3 at my second competition.

I averaged 15 at the time.

I ended up getting: 22.40, DNF, (by a corner twist) 21.70, 21.42, (19.93)

That average gave me last place in the round by more than four seconds.

My previous worst competition average was 18.80, and my previous worst competition single was 20.52

Most of my official pyra averages
In my first ever average, I got an average 3-5 seconds slower than my global, not pure how though.
In my second ever average, everything about the first solve was bad, the second solve my tip execution was terrible, and the third solve took me way to long to recognize L4E, I saved the average with 2 fives though.
In finals at Clark’s hill cubing 2023, overall my average was actually above average for the most part but on the third solve there was an amazing scramble, it was 2 moves into a 3-cycle, I locked up super bad, if I had gotten my best solve on that scramble I would have podiumed.

my biggest failure is probably nto going to a comp when I had the time... It had never really crossed my mind, but now that I'm a junior and taking college courses, I really wish I had signed up for one or two. maybe next year summer break or spring I'll have the time. plus I'll be driving by then, so hopefully I can actually drag myself there lol.

I have some failures in the forum weekly comps tho. last place in skewb four weeks in a row.

I DNS'd a 2x2 solve because I didn't put my hands on the timer for long enough. I had become accustomed to my terrible YJ Pocket Timer that has no holding period, and since I was used to just putting my hands down and starting instead of waiting... well, you know what happens next. It was such a good scramble, too!
