i have got algorithms from badmephisto and am learning all 4 but i cant seem to recognise the difference between them
can you give me a way of recognising all 4 G perms easily

I like to look for a 'checker line', where the two corners are the same and there is an edge between them of opposite colour. Do the checker pattern and you'll see what I mean. If the G perm has that, it is B or D. Then check where it is relative to block. If it doesn't, it's A or C, and check where it is relative to the block.

There are various topics on this, use the search....but the way i know them is, put the head lights on the left side, and then determine where the matchin block is....position 1, 2, 3 or 4
Gc = position 1, block is back
Gb = position 2, block is on back right side
Gd = position 3, block is on front right side
Ga = position 4, block is on the front

Then you just execute the algorithms.

Each of them are different.
In each one, the edges are going either clockwise (before the algorithm is performed) or counter clockwise. Same for corners.
So when you get to the case, ask yourself "Are the edges going clockwise or counter clockwise? Are the corners going clockwise or counter clockwise?"
Remember that 1 edge is oriented correctly, and so is a corner.
So look for a 1x2x2 block.
The cases could be
Edges-Corners (CW-Clockwise---CCW-Counter clockwise)
CW-CW
CCW-CCW
CW-CCW
CCW-CC
Each case has a separate algorithm. Know which algorithm goes to which case, and you'll know it.

Wow, this is a great explanation, but as the OP was asking for fast recognition, I don't think you want to be looking for CW or CCW cycles.

Whenever I see a bar or headlights, I AUF them so they are matching a side in color. Usually while aligning the upper face, I can see more headlights or bars and use what the other posters have said to find what alg to use. The "checkerboard" opposite sticker is also useful because for those cases, I use a different starting grip so it gives me a little more time to adjust grip.

I have 2 versions of my G perms. One for when the headlights are aligned (which adds a U or U' and the end) and one for when the bar is aligned.

I find this the easiest for me.

Okay, this is how I do it, very simple, and similar to R's. Find the two corners that have the same colour on the same side, then find the 1x2, and compare. They're very easy to recognise. One thing, performing a G-perm, doesn't give you that case, it gives you the opposite. This may have been confusing.
